Description

Behold a UK acetate from Pink Floyd:

Embryo (EMIdisc) 1969?

Condition: NM

NB. OK, I know what you´re all thinking: "This can´t be a genuine item - whoever heard of a NM acetate in the first place. And by Pink Floyd to make matters worse, ho-ho!" Think what you will - here´s the story of how it came into my hands: In the mid-80´s I was trading stuff with an ambitious German record dealer who intrepidly burst upon a music library in the UK that had loads of acetates in spotless condition, though only one of each. He managed to buy a bunch & apart from this one, he found an unreleased VIP´s (early Spooky Tooth) acetate of "Blue, Blue Feeling" that later made its way onto one of those VIP´s bootleg LP´s that keep emerging from Germany  from time to time. I was offered the chance of trading this acetate, but had to give up a super-rare Oak acetate with Perfect Turkey in order to lay my hands on the Pink Floyd one. Now we shall soon find out if I made a wrong move!

To return to the theme of  this perchance being a bootleg of some sort, then there´s one feature that speaks against it to my mind: Why manufacture it with such a ridiculous large centre hole - again I´ve never seen an acetate that looks like this! And as it happens I actually collect acetates, though by more obscure UK artists. Bound to make people suspicious. The label looks genuine enough, when compared for instance with the Spencer Davis Group acetate I´m also selling. The B-side is blank, but has an extra small hole through the label area that occasionally appears on acetates. The Pink Floyd track, "Embryo" (here in mono), of course first greeted the world as part of the "Picnic" 2-LP sampler in 1971. Originally I understand that it was recorded as a possible singles release in 1969, before these plans were abolished. Perhaps this acetate is the result of those endeavours? Well, who knows. Hope someone found these wafflings vaguely amusing...
