Title: A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS
Original Columbia Blue & Black SCX 6258 LP
UK Stereo 1968 ULTRA RARE 1st UK Press
Matrix
Side A: YAX 3633 - 1 / Side B: YAX 3634 - 1
The last LP to feature the late, great Syd Barrett, complete with mega rare "Gilmore" misprint sleeve!
About: Ultra rare Original 1968 UK 1st Press! This MASSIVELY RARE LP initially sold barely anything (LP's were also really expensive to most people back then!) and therefore had a very small run, and is INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND, especially in this condition! An absolute classic LP from this incredible band! An astonishing album that really DESERVES to be in EVERY serious 60's / 70's record collection! Don't miss out on this MEGA RARE LP!
The LP:
Labels:
Classic UK 1st Press "KT" BLUE BLACK COLUMBIA labels. Both sides are GREAT with NO real signs of age, and NO writing, NO stickers, and NO tears whatsoever! Just have a few spindle marks which suggest it hasn't been played too much over the years at all! BRILLIANT for a 39 year old record!
Record: Visual -
Spectacular Original Ultra Thick UK 1968 1st Press Vinyl! Nice bright, clean and shiny as if it was just pressed! Fantastic jet black mirror like surfaces, it looks GREAT with NO excessively nasty marks, NO deep scratches that ruin playback, and NO vicious scuffs either! It just has quite a few of the usual light, wispy sleeve traces, a small half-circle of groove wear on the last track (which only causes 2 or 3 mild bursts of crackle - pretty hard to notice as it's on a loud bit), some noticeable but still fairly light scratches, and a few mild non-sounding hairlines (only visible in angled light) mostly from where it has sat or been removed from it's cover over the years. Of course, none of these blemishes interfere with play, and they CERTAINLY don't affect the smoothness of its playing! Well used, but still nice for a record of this age and rarity! Overall visual grade is at least very good towards excellent.
Record: Audio -
It plays BRILLIANTLY with fantastic stereo separation and clarity! Other than 3 or 4 fairly quiet crackles on the last track (mentioned in the visual - pretty hard to notice as it's on a loud part with lots of horns), it really sounds great with NO distortion, hops, hisses, sticks or skips! Only (like pretty much all records) has a touch of low level static in places such as on the run in grooves, maybe the rarest odd light non repetitive click here and there, and just a HINT of mild "blues man’s fag" crackle and pop in few and far between places such as on some of the quieter sections and between tracks, but it really doesn't overshadow the music AT ALL! (It is much more soft and atmospheric rather than the sound of bacon frying!) I'd even argue it gives it added soul! A hugely enjoyable listen - The music is TRULY loud and clear with that bass, depth, warmth and clarity you can only get from UK 1st Press vinyl! AMAZING for a record of this age and rarity!
Sleeve:
Original 1st press laminated flip back G&L patents pending "Gilmore" misprint sleeve complete with original inner! IMPOSSIBLE to find this sleeve in anything approaching mint condition - most are spent, torn and worn due to age and the lifestyles of the buyers of this particular LP! This one is NOT too bad at all, and looks GREAT, especially considering the nature of these fragile sleeves! NO tears, NO graffiti OR writing, NO really bad marks or stains AT ALL, and still strong and solid after all these years! The back cover is of particular good quality, the black and white photo has great contrast and not the dull grey of other pressings. The cover only has a few usual signs of ageing such as creasing, a bit of ring wear, a split in the middle of the spine, some light signs of general ageing to the non laminated back and flip backs (absolutely NOTHING drastic, no discoloration or coffee cup marks or ANYTHING close to that!), some denting/rounding to the four corners which basically ALL vintage LP's have, and POSSIBLY (just to be sure!) one or two other minor signs of age here and there, though nothing that really stands out to note at all! And that's truly about it! A GREAT sleeve, and despite being well used, a TRUE rarity to find one as fantastic as this - most have been virtually destroyed or are just about being held together, but not this one!!! It remains strong, solid, and unspoiled, and despite the split in the middle, even the spine remains strong and solid!
Summary: A well used, but BRILLIANT sounding example of this MEGA RARE classic Stereo 1st Press LP!!! Hard to find in ANY condition, but SERIOUSLY RARE TO FIND ONE AS NICE AS THIS, so don't miss out on this scarce opportunity to own a true piece of music history.
