Description
Soundtrack From The Film "More"
This vinyl is in superlative condition and the green tinted cover with the couple facing west is also extremely clean. Despite having a G stamper on S1 and just one EMI logo on each label this is known as a second pressing due to the text on the bottom of the labels.
YAX 3868 - 1G / YAX 3869 - 1G // Stampers GT 2 & RP
The audio on S1 is Near Mint (Mint in many sections / final track Ex+)
The audio on S2 is Ex+ (Near Mint for the majority)
The laminated cover is Ex (almost Ex+)
The labels are Mint
The original inner sleeve is Ex+
Visual grading
This vinyl is in stunning condition. It retains a glossy jet black mirror like surface the likes of which are not often found on 60s vinyl today. Under a strong light I can only see a couple of mega fine hairlines on each side and it is obvious it has been hardly played as there is no spindle wear on S1 and only two extremely small wispy lines on S2. This really is an immaculate vinyl and rarely have I seen 1G/1G pressing looking as pristine as this one. It looks as if it was pressed yesterday!
Play grading
This superb vinyl begins with a minimal amount of light static on the 'Cirrus Minor' intro which is so often the case with this very quiet track. I must add this 'background' is only very minor and is not intrusive in any way and the intro still plays extremely well. Once the acoustic guitar begins the audio is of a very high standard and the clarity is astounding. There is only the lightest of intermittent static and for a 48 year old vinyl to play this clearly is a rarity. The fade out is quite simply stunning, I have never heard better. There is then complete silence in the dead wax and 'The Nile Song' then plays with incredible power and depth and none of the distortion that you so often hear on these early pressings. This pays testament to how well this vinyl has been cared and/or how little it has been played. There is no interference whatsoever. 'Crying Song' begins in sublime fashion with only 3/4 dust ticks and again you just have to be so impressed with this vinyl. The remainder plays with Near Mint quality, again a rarity for such a quiet track. There is only the odd mega quiet dust tick but nothing to detract from the listening enjoyment. No clicks, pops or crackle. 'Up The Khyber' plays as Mint there is no other description for it. Again there are not enough superlatives to describe 'Green Is The Colour'. The lack of any 'background' is just breathtaking and this may well be the best version I have ever heard of this very quiet track. I don't like using the grade Mint on an unsealed vinyl and especially on one that is nearly 50 years old ! but honestly this track deserves it. 'Cymbaline' has audio of a very similar nature but does have some light static towards the end although most sellers would not even mention it! I grade honestly as my feedback confirms. 'Party Sequence' ends S1 with great clarity again but with some background static that is a little more obvious.
'Main Theme' on S2 has very light background static on the long intro but once the percussion begins the audio is of a very high standard. In fact it practically plays as new apart from a few seconds of static towards the end, definitely not intrusive though. 'Ibiza Bar', the other loud track on this album, is without doubt one of the 'cleanest' versions I have heard. So often there is a fair amount of distortion but there is barely any here. 'More Blues' plays with wonderful clarity and has only a handful of minor dust ticks on the intro. The remainder of the track is absolutely and is of Mint standard. 'Quicksilver' has a little background static on the intro but for such a quiet track you expect this on a vinyl approaching 50 years of age! It still sounds fantastic I hasten to add! Any static sounds are very much in the background and there are certainly no clicks or pops. Thereafter the audio is breathtaking, it really is incredible how clear the sound is. There was one faint click and a little static for about 10 seconds approaching the end but wow what a version! The final two instrumental tracks play to a superb standard with no interference and again the clarity is just astounding.
Cover
There cannot be many cleaner laminated E.J. Day 'More' covers than this one. The edges have no shelf wear and the thin pinched spine also remains in great shape apart from a small amount of wear near the bottom corner. The corners do have a small amount of wear but nothing major and the opening edge has a minimal amount of handling wear. The laminate has only a few minor creases and a small area of lifting by the bottom of the spine. The green tinted back cover is in superb condition and the flipbacks have hardly any of the staining that you so often see, they are so clean! There are no markings on the back cover at all. Overall this is a great example of this cover and is rarely seen in this condition.
Inner sleeve
The original EMI sleeve is in superb shape and has no splits or tears. 'Sgt. Peppers' on one side and 'Piper' on the other are advertised amongst others. It is very clean with no marking and only light creasing.
The labels
The one box EMI labels are in immaculate condition and I can only detect two tiny spindle traces on S2, there is no spindle wear on S1 whatsoever. Both labels are beautifully clean with no marking or writing and look as new. The run out grooves are also incredibly clean also. The text around the bottom of the labels says ''Made In Gt Britain'' only.
