Description
Pink Floyd-Piper At The Gates Of Dawn UK Mono first pressing; Columbia Black and Blue label SX 6157.Matrix XAX 3419-2 and XAX 3420-1.Stampers 1 G on both sides.
Condition of this set is as near to perfect as one will probably get these days.The disc looks spotless, though under artificial light I have noticed 2 or 3 very feint marks but these are so minor I cannot even find them each time I look.The labels are totally clean with strong colours-there are feint signs of spindle wear.
The cover looks great and retains that strong feel of a new album.The front cover looks really clean but has a few marks under artificial light that are inevitable with any glossy laminated cover like this.The rear has some staining, that I have only just noticed as it has come up in the photo stronger than in reality!It actually merges into the greyish rear cover colour such that it is hidden.Overall it grades at M-/EX+(RC grading)and is the best copy overall I have had of this Mono album, and over the years I have had many.
Apart from the whole collectibility of this rarer Mono version of the Floyd's debut LP-it has markedly different mixes to the stereo version and has a much crisper sound though one has to say this LP was meant to be listened to in stereo!-there is no greater testament to the sad passing of Syd Barrett than this LP which was truly defining in the whole history of rock music.
