Description
This is a superb example of a UK mono pressing of a great prog psych LP entitled 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' by The Pink Floyd. It was the band's first LP and this is a mono pressing. This LP was originally released in 1967 on the UK Columbia label (catalogue no. SX 6157). This pressing includes the rare KT embossed tax code letters on the first side label, straddling the central hole. The music is, of course, superb and it's easy to see why this great band had such an influence on later prog psych groups. It's a very fine record and features the genius of the sadly missed Syd Barrett.
OUTER SLEEVE - The sleeve is in fine condition. It's laminated on the front and is a flipback type. There is some very minor creasing on the front cover but this is hardly noticeable. There is some very minor wear and creasing on the edges. The spine is also in great condition and the wording along the spine is 100% readable. The flipbacks are in great condition with minimal wear. There is a minor 20mm tear on the top edge as it meets the mouth of the sleeve but this could easily be invisibly repaired by the winner of this auction. There is minor feathering along the mouth of the sleeve. On the top flipback it states - 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and on the bottome flipback - '6709 TPS Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London SX 6157/SCX 6157'. The rear sleeve shows some minor discolouration but is in overall fine condition. It states on the rear of the sleeve - PRODUCED BY : NORMAN SMITH - Recording Engineer : Peter Brown - Front Cover Photo : Vic Singh - Rear Cover Design : Syd Barrett'. I have graded the sleeve as Ex--
INNER SLEEVE - This is the original EMI Columbia company sleeve with black and white photos on both sides of other EMI LP's by other artists. There are splits at the bottom and along one side which have been internally and invisibly repaired with clear tape. I've graded the inner sleeve as Ex--.
RECORD - The record itself looks very clean with some very superficial minor marks which do not affect the quality of the recording. There is some surface noise which is definitely audible during quiet passages and in between tracks and the very occasional pop and click. There are definitely no jumps on any of the tracks. The black labels with silver wording are in lovely condition with some minor spindle marks. The record has been well played. There is no damage to the labels on either side. these labels feature the blue musical note and COLUMBIA logo and states under these - 'SOLD IN THE U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS'. On the label on the first side (straddling the spindle hole) are the letters K T which are, I understand tax code letters. The matrix numbers (XAX.3419 on side one and XAX.3420 on side two) are printed in silver on the left hand side of each label. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are as follows - side one - XAX 3419 - 2 - (stampers 1 M) - side two - XAX 3420 - 1 (stampers 1 G). I have graded the record as Ex-- and I believe that this is very fair. I try to grade everything as accurately and coservativel as possible. The winner of this auction will not be disappointed. All my items are 100% guaranteed and can be returned for a full refund if the buyer is not satisfied with the product.
