The Final Cut (1st Press)

This is the earliest of the first pressings as can be seen by the matrix numbers and -1-1 / -1-1 is not even listed on the pinkfloydarchives site!  The vinyl has been hardly played and it plays with stunning quality.

The audio on S1 is Near Mint (majority is Mint-)

This vinyl has been very well preserved and has only a very small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and no scratches.  At first glance it looks immaculate and you have to look very closely for any hairlines.  It has a lovely glossy sheen and is an excellent example of a first pressing.

Play grading  

The super quiet 'The Post War Dream' has next to no static and plays with stunning clarity from start to finish.  With no clicks or pops this is audio of a wonderful standard.  'Your Possible Pasts' has only a mild hint of static on the intro but it is certainly not intrusive, it is mega quiet!  The rest of the track plays with superb precision and only a couple of dust ticks towards the end.  The remaining tracks on S1 impress with immaculate playback the likes of which is rarely heard on a genuine A1/B2 first pressing.  With only the lightest of background static in a couple of sections you forget this vinyl is 35 years old!  The audio plays to a near immaculate standard and 'The Gunners Dream' in particular is stunning.  With so many very quiet sections the clarity is of an exemplary standard and the majority of this side is Mint- without doubt.  The depth and warmth of the audio is sublime.  An incredible S1 on this often underrated 'solo' album! 

'Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert' begins S2 in the same stunning style as S1.  For such a quiet opener there is only a very small amount of light static and the audio displays incredible clarity.  'The Fletcher Memorial Home' similarly has a little static here and there but there is definitely no intrusive crackle.  'Southampton Dock' plays superbly apart from a couple of clicks near the beginning.  'The Final Cut' can be described as Mint- the playback was stunning.  There is no 'background' and rarely have I heard this track play with such precision on a first A1/B2 pressing.  The two final tracks do not disappoint either.  'Not Now John' has no distortion and is 'as new' with very powerful audio.  'Two Suns In The Sunset' ends the album with near perfect audio and again for a track with so many quiet sections the clarity is very impressive.  With only a mega light touch of very quiet static and one light click towards the end this is a superb finale to an album that plays with very little interference.

The Gatefold

The gatefold is in excellent condition with only very minor shelf wear.  The top edges are very clean and the bottom edges only have a small amount of rubbing.  The wide spine has a couple of rub marks and remains 100% legible.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear.  The front cover is very clean with only a couple of small creases by the spine and as can be seen the sticker is still attached and in excellent order.  The back cover is in exemplary condition with just a couple of small creases by the spine again.  The inside of the gatefold is in perfect condition with no wear at all.

Inner sleeve

The original black poly-lined sleeve has no splits or tears and has only very minor creasing.  It is in fantastic condition.

The labels

They are both unmarked and have only a couple of wispy spindle traces on S1 and a little more spindle wear on S2.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
