PINK FLOYD – The Dark Side Of The Moon – Vinyl LP – Original 1973 – COMPLETE – Very Rare Solid Blue Triangle – A2/B2 MATRIX

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I welcome you to a very special MUSKY72 auction……It isn’t very often I actually list anything that is worthy of a second look but on this one occasion, I would ask that you share this listing with any fan of Pink Floyd out there as it is certain to attract some interest.

What I have on offer here is an ORIGINAL/COMPLETE 1973 Vinyl copy of the legendary ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ by Pink Floyd.

I will go into detail regarding every item that you will find in the sleeve and break down as much as I can.

Whilst I am NOT a Pink Floyd mega fan, I do enjoy their music and have numerous copies of this LP in my vinyl collection, this is one that I came across and just happened to spot it was 'different' from the normal ones I had....!!!

Okay, here goes, eyes down, looking for a full house!!

Outer Sleeve

The first thing I noticed upon seeing this sleeve was that it was not Black!! Compared to a later version of the LP, it is actually dark blue. The condition of the spine is very clean with only the first couple of millimeters being ‘scuffed’. On the white line that protrudes from the prism, the previous owner has written his name ‘Huw Jones’ in blue biro, unsure if this will erase, haven’t even tried as I do not want to damage the sleeve in any way. There are a couple of markings on the front cover, approx 2 inches to the right where the coloured bands come from the prism, these should be visible on the large pics that I have taken. Upon opening the sleeve, I see that the left side of the sleeve is sealed, overall the inner is in excellent condition with all text appearing bright and punchy and very little marking to the two sides.The reverse of the outer sleeve is in great shape, with the Catalogue ref of SHVL 804 (IE 064 . 05249) stereo being in the top right hand corner.

The top and bottom edges of the sleeve to exhibit some scuffing where it has been stored over the years, you will be glad to hear that it now has its own heavyweight plastic sleeve to protect it from any damage and I will be using a very secure method of transit to ensure that this gem reaches its new owner in one piece and in record time,



Inner Record Bag

I have looked into and have heard numerous stories about the ref numbers on the actual inner sleeve that holds the vinyl, here is a breakdown.

On one side of the black sleeve, there is nothing printed, no ref numbers at all. On the other side it reads ‘PATENT Nos 1125555 & 1072844’ (the latter ref number being situated under the first ref). On the right side of the sleeve it reads ‘Made in Great Britain’. The sleeve has a central circular window with the plastic window being attached to the entire of the inner sleeve. I would rate the condition of the inner sleeve as ‘Excellent’ with no tears, blemishes or markings apart from those mentioned above




Onto the record itself….

Side 1

I have taken a couple of pics of each side under different lighting conditions in case one showed any minor blemishes that did not appear under the other. I am sure you agree that the lighter shots do show the quality of the label on the record for both sides, nice and sharp!

All detail on the label is as in the picture, I will not re-iterate unless you require me to do so.

The MATRIX ref is ‘SHVL 804 A – 2’.

The text on the inner circle is tight and very vibrant, you can see slight wear around the inner hole, nothing to be concerned about I am sure but worthy of note.

The condition of Side 1 is Excellent, the vinyl literally ‘shines’ back at me when I hold it against the light, very very clean and bright for a piece so old.





Side 2

As with Side 1, I have taken a couple of snaps under lighter and darker conditions to assist you in identifying any blemishes.

The pics detail the info on the label of Side 2, please advise if you require additional info.

The MATRIX ref is ‘SHVL 804 B – 2’ which I understand is correct for being a first pressing.

The text on the inner circle and condition of Side 2 is as above, no need to replicate info.





Posters

Firstly the ‘Pyramids’, folding out to full size, I see no trace of this poster ever being hung, no pin holes or blu-tak marks (did that exist in 1973???) The edges are clean, crisp and corners are sharp, you do see a little ‘browning’ on the reverse of the posters, nothing to do with the posters ever getting damp, more than likely just natural aging affecting the paper. I rate this poster as ‘Near Mint’.



Secondly ‘The Band’, as above re no pin holes or blu-tak markings, edges and corners again, sharp as a pair of scissors. On one rear panel you do see a little more ‘browning’ this is in the form of smallish circle shaped markings that appear a very light sepia colour, I am sure that this is nothing more than natural aging. I would rate this poster again as ‘Near Mint’



Both posters are vibrant and appear ‘As New’, they would look great framed and hung (or kept in the sleeve where they have lived for the past 35 years !!

Stickers

The sticker that appears to have the darker colours on is the first I will describe, On the front, there is no damage to the top of the item, moving down approx 2.5 inches, you have a fold where the sticker clearly came to rest between the middle spine of the gatefold sleeve, a little more creasing is apparent lower down on the left side of this sticker which spans across to the other lower corner. The backing paper has ‘MILLFIX PERMANENT INTERMILLS’ printed on it and there are 3 vertical peel away sections. The colours are vibrant and the corners where the creasing does not impact are sharp and clean.

The lighter coloured sticker is in ‘As New’ condition with no creasing at all to report, it has the same printing on the 3 vertical peel away backing sheets and corners and edges are razor sharp.



I have a very good HI-FI setup but sadly this has had to be dismantled owing to the recent arrival of another 'Mini-Me' so I have NOT been able to test the record for sound quality. I am confident that after the disc has been cleaned professionally using a proper industry standard anti-static solutions, you will not have any issues at all with this LP, this is of course if you do not witness any issues up front!

Overall, a very rare and collectable 1973 ORIGINAL First Pressing of the album.
