While production began as a conclusion of the "wall project" related to the previous work "The Wall", as a result an album that reflects the influence of the Falkland conflict that broke out at the same time. Richard Wright has not participated in this socialist work that appeals to the misery of the war, such as to Eric Waters, the father of Roger Waters who died in World War II, and Waters, David Gilmore and Nick Mason are being recorded in a system where a guest joins three people. Produced by Waters, James Gazley and Michael Caimen. In the UK chart, it was brilliantly ranked first, and ranked sixth in the United States.
