PIXIES Surfer Rosa 1996 4AD UK Reissue CAD 803 Where Is My Mind Steve Albini EX

Surfer Rosa is Pixies’ debut full-length LP, a landmark of American underground rock built on their signature loud-quiet-loud dynamics.

Steve Albini’s raw, roomy production captures “Bone Machine,” “Gigantic,” and “Where Is My Mind?” — later given permanent cultural reach through Fight Club — alongside deep cuts like “Broken Face” and “Vamos.” Spanish-language lyrics and Puerto Rico references carry over from the band’s earlier work throughout.

This is a 1996 UK-credited 4AD reissue, catalog CAD 803, pressed in the US by United Record Pressing.

Mastered at Loud Mastering by John Dent, credited here under his “Jonz” alias. Dent was one of the UK’s most respected mastering engineers, cutting lacquers for U2’s Boy, The Smiths, and Bob Marley’s Island Records catalog, and was named Mastering Engineer of the Year at the 2014 Music Producers Guild Awards.

The lacquers were recut for this pressing by Dent, reusing the same hand-etched in-joke text found on the original 1988 cut — “WITH AN ‘F’” on the A-side and “NUDISM” on the B-side — a small continuity between this pressing and the first UK release.

Textured 4AD sleeve with Vaughan Oliver’s design and Simon Larbalestier’s photography.

The Side One label is a striking photographic variant, printed with the same sepia cover image rather than the standard text layout used on Side Two — an unusual detail for this catalog number.

Comes with the original thick gold inner sleeve.

The runout on both sides carries the United Record Pressing stamp (Ⓤ) alongside a stamped asterisk mark.
