Description
Glam and hair metal rockers Poison formed over FORTY years ago, in 1983. Signed to Enigma Records, they released their debut album in 1986. Poison took glam and hair metal to a new level, and were sometimes mistaken for females! (The androgyny in the beginning was on purpose, I think.) Their attitude was to always party and have a good time, and lots of sex, and somehow that worked and made these guys international rock stars! Eventually their image changed from glam to leather and biker 'chic'. And their sound got way more bluesy...
In 1988, Poison released their second studio album. Calling it 'Open Up and Say...Ahh!', it sold a whopping FIVE MILLION copies in the US alone! (Plus probably a couple million more worldwide.) It made them huge. Like Motley Crue huge! The big hits from this one are: "Every Rose", "Nothing But a Good Time", "Fallen Angel", and their cover of an old Loggins and Messina song titled "Your Momma Don't Dance".
When the album was released, retailers like Walmart said, "um....no!" Lol I know the uncensored cover looks tame by today's standards, but it freaked out some people in the 80s. The long tongue, the demonic skin tone and eyes. It was just too much! So Poison censored the cover, leaving that lady's eyes showing, and not much else! Of course, this happened AFTER several thousand original copies were running around loose in the US!
Up for your consideration today is a copy of Poison's second album, and a sweet 80s PICTURE DISC LP! It's awesome, and even comes in the ORIGINAL album jacket! The pic disc originally came in a die-cut sleeve, which is no longer available; but instead, I was able to score an uncensored, original jacket, so you'll get the pic disc IN the first, original sleeve!
The vinyl itself looks great, and all I see are a few very light surface marks on it, mostly on the B side. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. And 80s pic discs usually have a lot of surface noise, and sound pretty rough. This is, however, a heavy and thick vinyl record, which is a bit unusual, as there weren't a lot of 180 gram records in the 80s. (There were a few, but the majority of them started being manufactured in the 90s.) The jacket looks great, and has only a little shelf-wear on the corners and spine. The colors are still bright. Original insert looking great, as well!
These don't pop up too often here on eBay, so here's your chance to own a piece of music history. 80s hair and glam metal music history, to be exact! This would look great displayed anywhere, and is a great conversation piece. You can tell your friends how oppressive some retailers were in that era, and how it didn't take much to make people nervous!
