Description

THIS WEEK, I'm offering a selection of TWELVE-INCH 78s, having neglected them in months past. I've bought all-new packing materials in which to send them, anticipating the mad rush. Don't you DARE glaze over!! Collectors have this weird "Idee Fix-ee" that 12" records are boring! These all are anything BUT!  Each one deserves a place on your precious shelves!

HERE'S pianist GEORGE GERSHWIN again, this time performing his three piano preludes, and the big tune, "Da - de - da - DAAAAAAA....." from "Rhapsody in Blue."

A highly informative record, made during his 1928 trip to England, George puts his piano preludes over with verve and gusto - and BRISKLY!  He banishes all other versions - - especially those made since his death, when pianists made a "big deal" of the preludes, and slowed the tempos down to a funeral pace!  If you are a pianist, you couldn't possibly do better than have George himself to demonstrate these wonderful pieces. Very clearly recorded!  SAME goes for the "Andante" from 'Rhapsody in Blue.'

This original 1928 Columbia 50107-D is in fine EE- condition.

PHOTO: I've never before seen this moody Carl Van Vechten portrait of George! Taken in 1937, shortly before his death.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.

An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."
