Title: “High Pressure”
Label: PRESTIGE. Original mono pressing on medium weight vinyl. Label is white PREVIEW COPY with black text, with deep groove. Catalog number is PR 7209.
“RVG” is stamped in the dead wax of each side.
Year: 1957
Personnel:
Red Garland – piano
John Coltrane – tenor sax
Donald Byrd – trumpet
George Joyner – bass
Arthur Taylor – drums.
Review:
“The distinctive pianist Red Garland, tenor saxophonist John Coltrane (then 31 and already breaking away from the pack), and trumpeter Donald Byrd, along with the supportive bassist George Joyner and drummer Art Taylor, perform five jazz standards on this [LP]. Highlights include "Soft Winds," "Undecided," and an explosive version of "Two Bass Hit" that foreshadowed the rendition that Trane would record with Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderley the following year. High-quality hard bop from some true "Young Lions."”

Condition:
DISC: NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, as clean as can be found. Appears to have been played one or two times, or quite possibly unplayed. Labels are clean. Fidelity is superb. A gorgeous disc you will never need to upgrade.
JACKET: Jacket is nice VG+. Laminated front panel is clean and bright, with some moderate surface wear. Nice seams and spine. Corners display some wear, most notably the top left. Reverse has light surface wear; “PREVIEW COPY” is stamped at the top of the reverse panel. It is otherwise clean with no writing or stickers. There is a small drill hole through the center of the jacket. Overall a very presentable jacket to accompany the superb disc.
