MEGA RARE ORIGINAL sixties PRIVATE PRESS GARAGE / SURF MONSTER...from Andover Massachusetts; the area was a hotbed for sixties frat and garage bands and provided us collectors with a string of all time Lp winners, like the Apostles, Torques, The Ha'Pennys, The Rising Storm, and yep, The SATANS, with their "Raisin' Hell" album, a micro pressing from the sixties...
Led by lead guitarist Al Gordon, this garage crew group were formed in Massachusetts Phillips Academy. The lineage of the other famous bands listed above combined with the fact the album is ultra rare and was featured in one of the Hans Pokora Record Collector Dreams books seems to account for the album's notoriety.
According to the liner notes "They are a somewhat informal organization, holding their meetings in such places as the shower room at the gym. Through numerous appearances at parties, dances, and concerts all over New England, they have answered the stirring cry of modern America's youth." Their 60's private press LP "Raisin' Hell" (quite a risque title for the times) is a winning garage / frat-rock effort with an occasional bluesy number thrown in the mix. 11 tracks carrying no writer credits and if you are looking for sophisticated writing and super professional performances this isn't the place to come since most of these songs are charmingly crude affairs with the prinitive beat of the sixties. Lead singer Carl Corey has a nice bluesy growl ('Sugar-Coated Love' and 'The Twist') and he didn't have much to offer in the way of subtlety, per the good garage vocalists (the Apostles singer springs to mind!) his moaning compliments this raw flashback to the golden era...

CONDITION: The cover is solid, flat and square with top and bottom taped seams. Looks like it kind of survived one hell of a sixties frat party, call it VG- still servicable.
The vinyl is shiny on both sides having multiple top surface scuffs and a few stray stylus drags... visually VG+ and plays very enjoyable with absolutely no problems other than some light surface ticks ...no heavy or disturbing surface noise. and the custom labels are clean. Slight warp that does not effect playback.
Records are graded per "GOLDMINE" standards: SS= Still Sealed... M= Perfect...NM= Near Perfect...EX= Not Quite NM!...VG+= some wear, slight damage...VG= wear, some damage...G+= considerable wear, damage...Good, Fair.price rating
