Description
PRINCE Sexy Dancer Mad Mix Bobby Z 1979 RMTZ 12" Francois Kevorkian NYC VG+
"Sexy Dancer" is one of Prince's most sought-after early recordings — a deep, hypnotic disco-funk track from his 1979 self-titled album, written and performed entirely by Prince with drummer Bobby "Z" Rivkin. The full extended version was never officially released in the United States on any vinyl format. What you're holding is the closest thing the American market ever got.
This is a 1979 12" on R.M.T.Z. Records, produced by Deborah Marman and Bobby Zito and mixed by Pete Diorio and Bobby Zito at Sound Lab Studios. Side A carries two versions of "Sexy Dancer" — the Mad Mix introducing Bobby Z, and the Long Version. Side B is a François Kevorkian showcase: his dub breakdown of Martin Circus' "Disco Circus III," the JDBZ X-Medley, and a D. Train Dub — all mixed by F.K. These mixes were played by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage and by David Mancuso at the Loft. The Kevorkian Disco Circus mix on this record is sourced from an acetate that circulated only among Levan, Mancuso, and a handful of close DJ associates. This is the vinyl document of that scene.
Mastered at Frankford/Wayne. Both sides carry the MISI lacquer cutter inscription.
The labels are custom geometric designs — Side A features diagonal color bands in yellow, salmon, mint green, and taupe on a cream ground. Side B is a cream sunburst/starburst design. Neither label carries printed text — all identification is on the sleeve. The sleeve is a single-panel insert with the large orange "Z" design on the front face.
