Description
1977 Direct to Disc recording of excerpts of Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" ballet score, arguably the best known classical setting of the score.
Erich Leinsdorf conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, in a recording in one take - direct-to-disc recording does not permit overdubs & re-recording, the immediacy is easily apparent on the right playback equipment.
This was the Golden Age of the LPO, under the musical directorship of Zubin "Zubi-Baby" Mehta, many of the recordings on Decca are acclaimed for performance & sound, many of which are on the HP Super Disc List, as this one is.
