WITH MUCH APPRECIATION TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS:  If you have a question on orders received, please contact us.  We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied.   Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music!  We have served thousands of satisfied customers  - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.

We have a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records.   Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of  2/3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers.

We mail all paid orders out once a week on Fridays/Saturdays.  Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule to Monday.   We strive to keep our shipping and handling costs as close to actual charges as reasonable.  We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order.  Please be aware we have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.

TO OUR REPEAT CUSTOMERS:  We are happy to hold orders to save on shipping.  Please pay your current invoice within five days of auctions ending and, if you request, we will hold your order and reflect a shipping discount for each additional order shipped together in the same parcel.

As always, thank you for your support!

Tim Buckley's Big Experiment is the commotion of "Trout Mask Replica" with the disposition of "Astral Weeks."
This may be one of the most polarizing records of all time, certainly one of the most uncompromising ever by an artist who was once considered a folk singer/songwriter.

Part of the reason for this confusion is the fact that Starsailor comes off as simultaneously academic and fearlessly experimental, almost the rock equivalent to Stockhausen or the more experimental Mingus albums. The "songs" are studies in voice, and as such the lyrics are largely superfluous, a point further indicated by the fact that longtime lyricist Larry Beckett co-wrote less than half of the songs.

The experiments on the first side of Lorca give you a good indication of what's going on in the first 2 songs here. Both have the same meandering instrumentation combined with slow, sonorous vocal intonations that create a dissonant nightmare. Imagine Ornette Coleman also using his voice as an instrument and you get the picture. If that didn't make you turn off your record player, "Monterey" might. It seems a bit more structured and uptempo due to Lee Underwood's repeated guitar figure and the constant high-hat taps but it's actually quite a languid song, though less so than the previous songs. Here is where the vocals really come off the rails, with swooping dissonance and bleating noises. It's a brilliant track, quite difficult to warm to, but powerfully experimental. As an oasis in your experimental desert, Tim offers you the brief, jaunty, perfect pop of "Moulin Rouge". It's intent is clear, "Please don't run away yet! You still have like 2/3 of an album to go!" This is followed by the most famous track on the album, "Song to the Siren", a holdover from 1968. The original acoustic version he performed on the last episode of the Monkees series somewhat resembled his other 68 material, but here the flanged guitar and treated background vocals create a song that really doesn't sound like it belongs anywhere in Tim Buckley's discography. The vocal is one of the most emotive of his career.

Side 2 has some more uptempo songs to keep the pace moving, but it also has the album's most experimental track in the title track. Composed entirely of Tim's synthesized vocals, noise just weaves in and out with only snatches of intelligible lyrics here and there. It's an awesome track. Someone once said that Tim Buckley did for the voice what Jimi Hendrix did for the guitar, and here is the clearest example. Starsailor was more than a commercial failure; after listening to this album, there were probably some consumers that just stopped buying music forever. They wanted to hear folksongs and they got some sort of hazy, sadistic nightmare. Tim continued his streak of not staying in any style long enough for you to figure it out by jumping head first into White Sex Funk, with decidedly mixed (and frequently disturbing) results.
