Description
This is a VG / EX copy of this VERY HARD TO FIND UK VINYL LP by ALEX SANDERS - "A WITCH IS BORN" - released on A&M Records in 1970 - AMLS 984. This original pressing has the GOLD A&M labels. This release was quickly withdrawn by A&M after release (was it complaints about it's subject matter or was Herb Alpert shocked at what the London office were getting up to! Heady days indeed!). Copies are hard to find and the combination of a paricularly 'delicate' sleeve (very soft card that is not laminated and a vinyl pressing containing 2 spoken word tracks with some classical music to build the 'tension' of the dramatic events unfolding in front of your ears, (so noise is an enevitability from the moment of pressing!) means that good quality copies are much sought after. This is a real one off (some would say 1970 was the year to release something like this!)and it is interesting because it shows how our world has changed in these few years, even when it comes to the dark arts! This is what it was really like if you hung out with Alex Sanders and his chums! The sleeve has the expected edge wear and some colour loss simply due to storage. This copy has not been badly handled, it's the softness of the sleeve card that is at fault. The spine has lost colour but is still fully readable. The record was originally sealed and it still has it's 'ADULTS ONLY' warning sticker. There is also a gold sticker statimng a retail price of '29shillings & 11d'. It claims it is removable, but I wouldn't risk it on this particular sleeve. The back has signs of light ring wear, again simply due to storage. The inside of the gatefold is almost perfect and has lots of photographs of the initiation. Two tiny spots of colour loss is the only damage. Not a bad sleeve at all and I think that you will not be dissapointed! The vinyl looks perfect and is very clean and shiny, but there is some 'gentle' background noise. This is simply the nature of what we are listening to - words spoken over dead wax! The noise is in the groove! The whole thing is a strong EX I believe! So, A VERY RARE UK LP, that was quickly WITHDRAWN and a copy that is in fine shape when all things are put in context. While Black Widow where playing around with tracks like "Come To The Sabbat", Alex Sanders was doing it for real, with all the stuff Hammer Films had taught us to expect - naked female flesh, lots of candles, swords and bondage.
