Artist: The Small Faces
Format: Vintage promotional postcard for the Small Faces, signed in ballpoint ink by Ian Maclagan, Ronnie Lane (Plonk), Steve Marriott and Kenney Jones, some handling wear, creasing and discolouration consistent with age, 9 x 14.5cm. The card contains the following signatures:
Steve Marriott – vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards (1965–1968, 1975–1978; died 1991). Steve has signed ‘Stevie’ in a fine black biro-style pen at 3 o’clock on the right-hand side of the card. Grading of the signatures ink coverage and definition is 9/10.
Ronnie Lane – bass guitar, vocals, guitar (1965–1969, 1975; died 1997). Ronnie has signed by his nickname ‘Plonk’ at 11 o’clock towards the upper edge of the card in a fine dark blue biro-style pen. Grading of the signatures ink coverage and definition is 9/10.
Ian McLagan – keyboards, vocals, guitar, bass (1965–1969, 1975–1978; died 2014). Ian has signed ‘Mac McLagan’ at 5 o’clock towards the base edge of the card in a fine medium blue biro-style pen. Grading of the signatures ink coverage and definition is 9/10.
Kenney Jones – drums, percussion, vocals (1965–1969, 1975–1978). Kenny has signed his full name at 7 o’clock towards the base edge of the card in a fine medium blue biro-style pen. Grading of the signatures ink coverage and definition is 9/10.
Condition: this card dating from 1966 is very good condition, with minor creasing, minor wear points around the edges, minor corner ‘dinks’ and minor grubbiness and age yellowing. A super-rare set of 1966 signatures with a very high standard of definition – this will look amazing mounted, framed and glazed!
PROVENANCE: signatures were personally obtained by the vendor who used to work at the Swan & Edgar department store in Piccadilly. The Small Faces attended the opening of their record department. Sold via Chiswick auctions as Lot 358 in June 2024, and who carry out extensive authentication prior to releasing lots for sale. A redacted invoice will be included as provenance for this amazing and rare item.
