Originally released in the UK as a limited edition 3x12" (45 RPM) titled Metal Box, which was packaged in a round metal box. Warner Brothers in North America didn't want to pay for the extra packaging and triple vinyl, so it was changed to a 2x12" (33 RPM) in a standard gatefold sleeve, and the title changed to Second Edition. Originally released as "Metal Box" in 1979 by Virgin Records (containing three 12" 45rpm records), it was deleted from the catalogue on 23 November 1979 after an initial release of 60,000 units, then re-issued on 22 February 1980 as "Second Edition", a double LP packaged in a more conventional gatefold.
