This is the mid-1950s reissue of Paul Hindemith’s Das Marienleben, released by Lyrichord as LL 97, with the distinctive green cover and updated microgroove mastering. Originally recorded in 1950 and issued as a double LP (LL 6), this version condenses the performance onto a single disc without compromising fidelity. The vinyl is pristine and the cover shows no signs of discoloration. It's like new!
Canadian soprano Frances James delivers a deeply expressive interpretation of Hindemith’s revised 1948 setting of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetic cycle on the life of the Virgin Mary. Accompanied by pianist Dr. George Brough, this performance was authorized by Hindemith himself, who praised James’s rendition as “the most perfect” he had heard.
