Description
For the Paul Whiteman completist, here's his withdrawn record of "The Same Old Moon" (take 2) and "That Little Something" (take 3), both from the Jerome Kern musical "Lucky," on Canadian Victor 20616. These are lively sides arranged by Ferde Grofe, with contributions from Chet Hazlett, Harry Perrella, and Vic Berton. Recorded in New York on April 26, 1927.
According to Don Rayno's Whiteman biography: "With the earlier-than-expected demise of the Broadway show Lucky, Victor and/or Whiteman may have changed their minds about releasing this tune and its companion, . . . at least in the United States. A limited number of pressings came out in Canada on Victor 20616; the Victor session logs indicate that both the master and the back-up takes were destroyed in mid-August [1927]."
This record is in V- condition. There is a small edge chip not to the grooves on the "Moon" side. There are needle runs on both labels. Still an enjoyable listen.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
