Notes: This is a GREAT album, and Steve Hoffman did it right, from the original 3-track master tapes. Here is an excerpt from his comments, who else would go to all this trouble to get it just right, or give you this kind of insight to the remastering process?"...And it's really fun being there. I'm sitting in the control room of Studio B, where many of the Capitol greats recorded their original hits and it's awesome actually working on history in the same spot that it was recorded. Mixing Peggy Lee three-tracks while dialing in the ORIGINAL chamber echo that was used on the original mix from 1958 is fun as heck for me.
The best part of hanging out at Capitol is playing with the old stuff that the studios still use every day: Vintage tube limiters, compressors, EQ's, mixing consoles, etc. And dialing in the echo from the legendary echo chambers in the "old-fashioned" way (via patch cords plugged into a REALLY old big patch bay in the hallway between studios) is truly cool. I keep expecting Sinatra, Nat or Peggy to come out of the big room at any moment. I would say the vibe in that place is truly vintage!
Oh, I'm working on a new version of Peggy Lee's BEWITCHING-LEE which is a greatest hits comp. and the famous stereo LATIN A LA LEE for Vinyl and CD for S&P Records. We've got old 16" lacquers, mono tapes and three-tracks spread out. Quite a treat. It also tickles me to see these young (to me) Capitol engineers actually respecting the sound of these old masters and knowing what a three-track tape machine is, etc. Something I don't see in my travels too often. Usually the young engineers I work with on location have never even SEEN an analog tape, let alone something older. I like it! Gives me hope for the future of old stuff everywhere... Packaging: The sealed album will be placed in a clear outer protective sleeve, then sandwiched between two large cardboard stiffener pads and carefully taped together. I have used this method for many years to practically eliminate seam splits on sealed LPs. The album is then packaged with bubble-wrap and Styrofoam peanuts in an oversize box. I know what it is like to receive poorly packaged records, you will not have that experience with me!
Tracking: You should automatically receive your Tracking Number by email when the Shipping Label is printed.
