Description

Title: Portait of a Gemini.~~~ Pressing: Original Sidney pressing from early seventies.~~~ Grade: Vinyl~ VG+ record plays very clean except for a small mark at the beginning of side 1 that makes a light background sound, not even a click really, during the intro to the song “ today is the first day”, the track is not a high point of the LP anyway. The mark is 1/8 inch, 3-4 mm long. Cover~ Vg++, it is signed by Ray Tabs, who did so discreetly. Cover may have yellowed over the years a bit. Blurb: top notch rare groove CLASSIC here! The track “Too Soon Your Old” will make your head explode the first time you hear it…it’s the best femme vox track of all time, trust me>> Heads up DJ’s…..EPIC!!! There’s a couple of other great tracks as well… “Lady Day and John Coltrane”, a Gill Scott-Heron cover, is scorching, and there’s a fantastic Cover of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin On?”. Don’t discount the rest of the album either…Penny’s got a beautiful voice and she’s backed by an Ace band. I bought this LP from Ray Tabs, the leader of the band on this set, not too long ago. We swapped a few e-mails and this a short summary of what he had to say: He and his band gigged with Penny almost every night for seven years…hence the tightness. A local doctor named Sy Lefco asked them if they wanted to record some of his songs if he financed the project, the musicians accepted. Initially they did a pressing of 1000 copies, then they did 1000 more after the first copies quickly sold out. They were on such tight budget that Ray Tabs and Dr. Lefco glued the LP sleeves together themselves and stuffed in the wax . Ray is still playing today and working on new material. As for Penny, who easily could have given Marlena Shaw a run for her money, she has been teaching elementary for a number of years now….~~~ Payment: Please get me payment within ten days of the auction’s close. Vg+ : still a good LP, though there is an audible defect, either a mark or background noise. Vg: wax has many marks that cause clicks or background noise. The LP’s still playable, though it’s not going to sound like new, that’s for sure. Vg-: forget about it ~~~~~CHECK OUT THE OTHER NICE LP’S LISTED~~~~
