Description

Period Thrift Edition TE 1093 boxed set  'Round the World with Janos Starker. Everest/Wilshire Boulevard reissue of mono Period recordings. Kodaly: Sonata for Unaccompanied Cello, Op. 8; Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7; Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 4; Bartok: Rhapsody No. 1 for Cello and Piano; Leo Weiner: Lakodalmus for Cello and Piano. Janos Starker, cello, accompanied by Otto Herz, piano, and Arnold Eidus, violin.

NOTE: While the album contains 3 LPs and the liner notes and record labels list the Boccherini and Mozart concertos, the Boccherini and Mozart are NOT included in the set. In their place, the Kodaly Unaccompanied Cello Sonata and Duo for Violin and Cello have been pressed twice. Obviously, the wrong masters were used for two of the six sides. (It's possible all of the sets pressed by Everest/Wilshire have this flaw.)

Vinyl 9/10 with no spindle marks, light factory scuffs; auditioned, plays well with clean, spacious, robust MONO sound and generally quiet surfaces. The Kodaly Unaccompanied is spectacular in performance and sound. Box 7.5/10: split corners all around, 2" tear in paper hinge, crease in laminate on front; 2" split seam on box, lower; otherwise clean and presentable. Original liner notes and paper inner sleeves.
