HELLO, I MUST BE GOING is the second solo effort from Phil Collins. Released on 1 November 1982 on the Virgin label in the UK and Ireland, Atlantic in North America, and WEA in the rest of the world. This is the album which generated Collins' first solo tour, as he finally felt that he had enough solo material to perform without his Genesis bandmates. Nine of the album's ten tracks made some sort of chart worldwide, with a cover version of The Supremes' You Can't Hurry Love becoming the album's most significant hit. Other tracks include the modern-jazz instrumental The West Side, (a concert fan-favorite) I Cannot Believe It's True, (a tune written about Collins' first wife demanding for more money in alimony now that he had become a huge success as a solo artist) and the album opener, the angry I Don't Care Anymore, (a direct jab at his ex-wife). That track ultimately reached No. 39 in the U.S., giving Collins his first Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male in 1984. The song was also featured in an episode of the television series MIAMI VICE, a trend that the show's producers would repeat many times. The album derives its name from the Marx Brothers' song of the same name, featured in their 1930 movie Animal Crackers.

The third solo studio album by Phil Collins. The album was released on 25 January 1985 on Virgin (UK and Ireland), Atlantic (U.S. and Canada), and WEA (Rest of the world). "One More Night," "Sussudio," "Don't Lose My Number," and "Take Me Home" were all released as singles with corresponding music videos. All four singles were top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with "Sussudio" and "One More Night" reaching number one. The three singles that were released in the UK all reached the top 20 on the UK charts. Worldwide, the album has sold over 25 million copies.

The title was inspired from an incident where Mr. Collins was denied admittance to the posh "The Pump Room" restaurant at the Ambassador East Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. The legendary 5-star restaurant has a strict "no-jacket, no admittance" policy and Mr. Collins' jacket was deemed improper by the maître d'hôtel.

The original album LP from the UK, contains ten songs. The additional song, "We Said Hello Goodbye," is only available on the CD edition.
