Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon 2nd Press Vinyl LP inner/posters/stickers A3/B2
Second Issue.
These copies were produced for a short time only, between first pressing and first repress, featuring earliest use of the new black Harvest "blue outline prism" label design.
These early transitional pressings, still have on labels the rim text starting as "The Gramophone Co. Ltd", and have been found with vinyl matrix A2/B2 or A3/B2 or A3/B3.
Gatefold cover of these copies come with two shade of color: very dark blue or black.
Many copies have been released with a sticker on front, although some do not have it.
The front cover has two different types of front openings:
- The right front opening of the gatefold cover is sealed with the two sides glued together.
- The right front opening of the gatefold cover is not sealed.
Rear top right corner has the text (IE 064 o 05249) between SHVL 804 and "stereo" centered (later copies have it left aligned).
Original set includes two A2-sized posters and 2 stickers.
Stickers have two different types of text on the back:
- "FasPrint Permanent" & "Crack Back Patented".
- "Permanent".
Some copies have a die-cut black polylined inner sleeve with patent number "1125555 1072844" and "Made in Great Britain" at the bottom.

Genuine 1973 early release!
- - I add the above statement as I have seen on eBay many people trying to sell/auctioning copies of this album and stating they are 'original' or 1st/2nd press from 1973 when they are , if you look at all the criteria (see above DC reference) , only 4th/5th presses released a few years later (certainly a lot of 3rd listed as 2nd).
Some of these are listed at ridiculously extortionate prices imo (e.g. £550). Do not pay this as a genuine VG+/Ex 2nd press (such as this) can be bought much cheaper (on discogs the average is £130)
This copy is not perfect, but an excellent example all round compared to others I have seen and I am starting bids at under £60 and offers in excess of £110...so below average...here are the details:
The Outer Sleeve: Excellent and is probably the best condition item amongst this lot. It has the original blue/black tinge , no rips/tears and very little rubbing , just a little around corners and edges - please view all the photos...
The Black inner sleeve: Often missing in action, this is an original with the relevant patent number "1125555 1072844" and "Made in Great Britain" - see photos. There is some creasing and the poly lining is no longer present
The Posters: The band playing live periodic table style and the blue pyramid are both here and in great condition. No pin marks and the cat no. SHVL 804 printed bottom right on the 'periodic table' poster. The band poster does have a few marks on the back - please view all the photos
The stickers: - unused ( I remember as a teenager having the stickers from my copy adorning my bedroom chest of drawers), so a rare find. They are intact , have 'Permanent' on the back , just a little grubby/faded in colour - again , please view all the photos
The LP itself: - Labels have a few light stains and marks from past usage (moreso on side 2), nothing serious and no names /label marks or ink marks, so very nice. The vinyl both sides has light marks from use and getting it in and out of the bag, no deep scratches though and very clean all round
The listening experience: - Along with the sleeve this is probably the other great thing about this set, it sounds good . There is some crackle throughout , particularly amongst quiet sections (Us & Them always seems to have a bit of bg noise, even on my remastered 50th anniversary copy!) , so to be expected I guess. No loud pops or interference though, no sticking or skipping and a thoroughly decent listen...
I have added a montage clip - so you should get an idea how it sounds ...
One last thing for anyone who has read this far. Remember that this version was the same year release as the 'solid blue pyramid' label, only change being the label design and the matrices which could vary (originally A2/B2, this is A3/B2), so very close to that. Matrix numbers with higher numbers will be later presses...
