Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most highly regarded albums of all time, a true classic that deals with the burdens of everyday life that drive people to insanity. The band first took this piece of music on the road in 1972 under the working title 'Eclipse - A Piece For Assorted Lunatics'
Released in March 1973 this album has sold a staggering number of copies around the globe and spent its entire life in and out of the US Billboard top 100. It is estimated that 1 in 5 housholds has at least one copy of this album in one form or another and statistics say that it is probably playing somewhere on the planet every minute of the day 365 days a year!
It has celebrated it's success with numerous anniversary releases on both CD and Vinyl formats and has also appeared in several Box Sets.
The item for sale is the very first pressing which was made famous by the 'Solid Blue Prism' label. Production of this ceased when it was discovered that the text was difficult to read because of the solid blue colour and the record company changed the label to the blue outline triangle seen on all subsequent pressings.
As any serious Pink Floyd fan will tell you, this is the 'Holy Grail' for collectors. Sure enough a copy comes up for sale quite regularly but these are hardly ever true original packages. Most dealers will swap the LP cover for a later one in better condition or add later stickers/posters to make a complete package. The main reason for this is that the original Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve was unlaminated and as such quickly started to show signs of wear.
As you can see from the photos this is the original unlaminated sleeve which some people say is blue in colour and not black. I have included a photo showing the sleeve alongside a later one for comparison. This sleeve also has the one sided opening which is factory folded and sealed (See photo). Some later pressings did come with one side opening but did not have the edge folded and sealed, just glued shut. The sleeve of this item is stunning and as close to mint as you will ever find.
The two stickers representing 'Day and Night' are the original 'Fasprint' crackback with brown diagonal lines. They are both unused and in near mint condition.
The two posters, Pyramids and Band are in stunning near mint condition and have never been used.
The original black poly-lined inner sleeve with silver patent numbers is in excellent condition with only a few minor creases.
The vinyl iteself is visually beautiful. There are some very faint whispy lines visible under strong lighting from removing/replacing in its sleeve. There are no scratches, chips or deformities. There are no skips or jumps and the sound quality is excellent.
The solid blue prism labels are stunning on both sides of the album with very little spindle wear and there is no writing or marking.
I am not a record dealer and am therefore being totally honest about this item. I doubt very much that another one in this condition will come up for sale. I am so confident that the winning bidder will be over the moon with this LP that I offer a full refund if the item is returned to me in the same condition within seven days.
