Description
Selling as a PAIR: A unique opportunity for collection of the Floyd's first two albums in mono - "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" (SX6157; matrix labels XAX 3419 & 3420) and "A Saucerful of Secrets" (SX6258; XAX 3633 & 3644). Both with Columbia blue+black labelling.
These are first pressings, purchased by me within days of their release back in 1967 (Piper) and 1968 (Saucerful). The inner and outer sleeves (as shown in pic) are originals, with some crinkling but no tears. Similarly the discs are in good nick with some background crackle at the beginning of each side - I don't really know if this is damage or modern tech meeting old vinyl. Whatever, it soon blends in with the young Floydsters in full psychadelic blast - amazing how good it still sounds after all that time.
Some track details:
PIPER: Includes the psychadelia of "Astronomy Domine" and "Interstellar Overdrive", rock of "Lucifer Sam" and the Syd Barrett whimsy of "Gnome" and "Bike".
SAUCERFUL (with Dave Gilmour replacing Syd): Includes the title track, plus "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", and "Let Their Be More Light".
On 30-May-04 at 12:42:39 BST, seller added the following information:More on the records' quality: The discs are in good condition, especially Saucerful of Secrets which has very few visible markings (and, to my ear, no audible effects). On my deck, Piper has some (2 or 3?) groove misses at the very start of side 2, though the little skips are not glaringly obvious during the complex start of "Interstellar Overdrive".
