Description
In my collecting days, I specialized in Pink Floyd rarities, and I was downright obsessed with the US Tower releases. I tried to obtain a copy of every label variant and cover type there was. According to the Pink Floyd Discography page, this is the third US issue of Saucerful on the brown, large-font Tower label, and was pressed at the Capitol Records plant in Los Angeles in late 1968. The slick number on the reverse at bottom right is '6'.
I have owned this record for 34 years, and it is in the same condition today as it was when I first bought it.
The cover is in very nice shape; probably the nicest Tower Saucerful in my collection (see scans for a detailed look). It has no bends, creases, or soiling, the corners and edges are intact, and has only a trace of high-point wear. There is some very minor chipping on the bottom edge of the front slick, but it's barely noticeable even in the scan. The worst blemish is a gouge over the top edge of the Tower logo on the reverse, but it doesn't tear the surface, so it is only visible upon close inspection. The inner sleeve is original and is uncreased, however there is slight age discoloration and a small 1-1/2" edge split on one side.
The heavy-vinyl, deep-groove disc shows wear in the form of clearly visible surface lines and a general 'used record' appearance, both of which are consistent with non-audiophile handling prior to my ownership. The scratches on the surface are not audible, however they do detract from the overall visual presentation of the disc. The labels are clean with some very light spindle marks that are only visible when viewed in light reflected off the surface (see photos).
Playback is also typical of used records of this time period, with soft staticy surface noise and light clicks. There is one soft repeating click near the end of the title track which spans about a dozen grooves, and an audible dimple in the vinyl between tracks A1 and A2. Although I would grade playback as only a 'C+' (average), it plays with NO GROOVE WEAR, which to me was the only thing that really made a vinyl record unlistenable. I do not have any advanced record-cleaning equipment, but I imagine that the staticy sounds could be significantly reduced by VPI treatment. Overall, although the playback is not audiophile quality, in my opinion it is well within the acceptable range for a used record of this time period. (It is a copy you'll most want to acquire for the cover, though.)

I always ship your album in mailers custom-made for LPs, with the disc placed separately into its own brand new poly-lined inner sleeve. The record and cover are then secured with two reinforced cardboard stiffeners and three layers of large bubble wrap.
