The Pink Floyd First XI Record Box Set
The Pink Floyd First XI Record Box Set is a limited-edition vinyl collection released in 1979, including a number of picture discs.
If you are looking at this listing, you know you are looking at a rarity.
Back in the early 80s, I was a young builder and aspiring mobile DJ.
As a builder, I carried out some work in the Essex home of the then EMI executive Brian Southall. Whilst working there we got chatting about my interest in music and once the job was finished, Brian presented me with this set of albums, in thanks for the work that I had done.
It is because it came directly from an EMI executive that my particular set has the factory sample sticker applied to the outside of the box, making it even rarer than the rest of the limited 1000 run it belonged to.
The box set has always been treasured by me, and I never played them, instead I kept them in my record collection as a "collector’s item" not to be worn or damaged.
I would describe the whole set as in extremely good condition, but there is a little fading and marking to the outside cover of the box, at the end of the day they are almost 50 years old. Please see photos.
I’ve only ever unfolded for the original posters, contained within the album sleeves, for the photographs you see in this listing.
Sadly, I have come to that part of my life when I need to think about downsizing so this and many other bits and bobs I’ve collected through the years will have to go, but it is a wrench to lose something which has part of my story behind it.
