MATRIX CODE SIDE B: XAX 3420 - 1 (1 M)

MOTHER STAMPER: '1' / 'M'

VERY EARLY FIRST PRESSING – 1st MOTHER, 4th STAMPER:

E. M. I record labels (stateside, Parlophone, Tamala, Island, Chrysalis, Columbia, Stax, Liberty, United Artists and bell included) use the following coding: G R A M O P H L T D (GRAMOPHONE LTD) where G=1, R=2, A=3, M=4, O=5, P=6, H=7, L=8, T=9 and D=0. (These are printed on the runoff ~ if the matrix no. Is 6 o'clock, these are 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock) therefore, many times you will see more than one letter etched in the dead wax in the stamper location (3 o'clock). For example, if "mm" is etched, it means the record was pressed with the 44th stamper. The very first pressing run of any record (distributed by labels under E.M.I) would be denoted with the codes 1/G 1/ G (side 1 and side 2), where the "1" represents the first mother (9 o'clock) and the "G" denotes the first stamper (3 o'clock) generally only demos, factory samples and the first couple of hundred records will have this code.

COVER:

See photos; the front laminated cover is in VERY GOOD condition. There is just the slightest of ring wear showing on the front and rear cover from storage and a few light creases in the laminate down the spine. The spine and corners are well defined with no damage. There is some creasing on the front cover. There is some laminate shrinkage along the leading edge of the opening and around the edges of the flipbacks. There is a seam split along the top which has been repaired at some point (see photos). A previous owner has written his name in black in on the rear cover.

VINYL:

The LP is in VERY GOOD condition and is perfectly flat. There are signs of this LP having been played several times, the record plays with the surface noise typical of vinyl that has been played but with no distortion or deterioration of the sound quality. There are no major surface marks, deep scratches or abrasions on either side of the vinyl other than the light marks from storage in and removal from a paper sleeve and some very light hairlines that don’t show during play. The record plays through cleanly from start to finish on both sides.

LABELS:

UK 1st Press "KT" blue & black Columbia labels. Both sides show no real signs of age, with no graffiti, writing or tears. There are some light spindle marks indicating that this LP has been played. I have graded these as EXCELLENT.

THERE IS A LOW STARTING PRICE ON THIS ITEM AND THERE IS NO BUY-IT-NOW OR RESERVE PRICE. OFFERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT ANY POINT (OR REPLIED TO)

I have used the Record Collector Magazine Grading System as a benchmark.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT:  The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
