Consequently, "Gigi" covers are now quite coveted over here. This album contains what may well be my favorite track of all time, the live version of Astronomy Domine. It is well documented that although Barrett had been officially out of the band for well over a year, he still frequently showed up at their gigs, and sometimes, if he were lucid enough, actually joined his old mates on-stage. Rumors of his participation in this particular performance have been particularly persistent, though I have never seen a definitive denial or verification either way. I prefer to believe he was there, by virtue of the guitar solo, which sounds so much more Barrett-esque than Gilmore. Certainly, the remainder of the live mat'l is clearly all Gilmore, and represents the better quality stuff offered here. The studio disc is weaker, mostly only by comparison to it's package-mate. It's far less intense, and when listened to in the same company as disc 1, is generally a bring down. But on it's own merits, there are some interesting moments found there as well.
