Description
1967 - 16th June U.K. release of The Pink Floyd's second single "See Emily Play". The B Side is "Scarecrow" . Both songs are of course compiled by the late Syd Barrett.This is a somewhat scarcely found single and rightly so commands a significant amount of collectable interest. Issued on the Columbia label.(kindly note "SOLID CENTRE") The catalogue number is: DB 8214. The matrix numbers on Side one are: 7 X C 4 30214 - 1 "PM" is stamped at "six o clock" (bottom side of play off) and "KT" is stamped at "three o clock" (right centre of play off) and "1" is stamped off set from "twelve o clock" as you view the single from the front. The matrix numbers on side two are: 7 X C A 3-215 - 1 "KT" is stamped off set left at "six o clock" (bottom side of play off) and "4" is stamped at "three o clock" (right centre of play off) and "CH" is stamped centre left as you view the single from the front. On Side B the letters K and T are stamped onto the SOLID centre of the single. At 9 o clock as you look at the label on both sides the words "Magdelene Music.BIEM Essex Music Mecolico NCB 7XCA 30214" can bee seen. My research in respect of the above details lead me to believe that this single is indeed a first pressing.
About the record - the sleeve: It is my belief that the sleeve that accompanies this single is the original - born out by the fact that there is a feature on the rear sleeve that details albums available on the Columbia label circa 1967.The sleeve is made from lightweight paper but is still in tact for the most part with the exception of perforations to the left and right hand sides - nothing serious and still fit for purpose - the single still houses within the sleeve without any problems. There are also one or two small tears in particular to the rear which have no doubt occurred as a result of insertion/removal over the years. The front sleeve is in good order - no writing or dealer stamps etc.
The Vinyl: Side A: Still presents with a fairly good sheene, as can be seen from the photos there are some surface marks and scratches of which under bright lighting conditions are visible.I cannot detect any deep or serious scratches that would overly concern me. Upon playing the single I am happy to say that with the exception of crackling and pops that are audible when the needle hits the vinyl prior to the commencement of Side A (See Emily Play) the song progresses to completion without there being any jumping, skipping or sticking, my assessment of the audio reproduction for side A is good.
Side B: Again presents with a fairly good sheene, as can be seen from the photos there are some surface marks and scratches of which under bright lighting conditions are visible.I cannot detect any deep or serious scratches that would overly concern me. Again,upon playing the single I am happy to say that with the exception of crackling and pops that are audible when the needle hits the vinyl prior to the commencement and upon the onset of the song Scarecrow (as this is somewhat a quitter section of music) Side B progresses to completion without there being any jumping, skipping or sticking, my assessment of the audio reproduction for side B is good.
