Description

"The Plastic Cloud,"  out of Bay Ridges Ontario, north of Toronto, produced this classic psych album in 1968; their lone gift to the genre. This is the original pressing, record #10 on the Allied label.  I gather the run was in the range of 500 units, and its current scarcity bears that out.  You can check it out on Youtube...but don't expect the same sonic impact that this album will make on your stereo...
I rate the cover VG+, with no splits or ring wear. There is minor edge /corner wear.. As is often the case there is no page insert present.
For those of you who like a back-story; I am an inveterate record scrounger and music geek, but I would never have come to own this rare album had I not first found its empty jacket in the midst of a VERY large collection.  Initially crestfallen, on a hope and a prayer I went through most of the hundreds of other LPs stacked its vicinity before finding the rare slice of vinyl that you now behold!  In buying the two....one empty, one full...I got the kind of deal I deserved and could afford...
The question has always been, could I afford, or do I truly deserve, to keep it?
I finally realized that it belongs in a worthier collection than mine.
The disc was thoroughly cleaned by a professional dealer with whom I have had a long acquaintance .   Even as a long-time Ontario-based music archivist, he'd only "heard of" this album and was thrilled to handle one.  He naturally treated it with kid gloves.  I believe he uses a VP1 record cleaner.. There are no skips on the record, and the spindle wear is very minor, indicating moderate play. No warping.
Given the rarity I have rated the record track-by-track using accepted grading standards
Track 1; G+ A few pops.
Track 2;VG- Some surface noise.
Track 3; VG- Some surface noise.
Track 4; VG- Minor surface noise.  This is the longest song on the side, logging about half the run time of the side.
Track 5; G Some surface noise and a few pops.
Track 6; G Some pops in the first section and surface noise later.
Track 7; VG- Some surface noise,
Track 8; VG+ overall Some surface noise early on. This is the longest song on the side; again almost half the run time
Overall, I would critically rate the vinyl as running from G to VG-, but with long stretches of VG-. I am sensitive to not overrating it and appreciate that record grading is somewhat subjective . The surface noise I have reported was based upon concentrated listening at a flat tone and  may well be mitigated by a higher-end stylus than my elliptical, although my cartridge is of good quality All of this said it is some excellent , rare and enjoyable music with some issues.
I taped the record in the process of evaluating it, so that I will always have a copy.
PLEASE contact me prior to  the end of the auction for any detailed questions you may have.
