Description
Product/Provenance
1999 was the first single to be released from Prince's fifth album 1999 in Late 1982. It was released a month before the album, and received a phased global release around the world. The standard B side was How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore however the Australian example had Let’s Pretend Were Married as it’s B side.
During the early 80’s the Australian release was nicknamed the “Aussie Blue” by collectors, its retained the tag ever since. It was always a very difficult record to collect. The record was very desirable due to its limited availability & unique blue coloured sleeve, considered by many as the best sleeve example for the track. In addition the song lyrics are on the reverse of the sleeve, only the Australian version was released like the album sleeve. It’s also worth noting it was released in 1982 like the US version not in 83 like the subsequent territories and majority of the releases.
All of these factors contribute to its rarity, it is a lot harder to find today then it was 35+ years ago, especially in a collectible condition.
Condition (See photos)
Sleeve - Excellent, really lovely condition, no rips splits or tears, strong clean lines. The sleeve has retained its lovely colour unaffected by light, the blue and white contrast is rich and bright. I’m conservatively grading here.
Vinyl - Mint, unplayed. Spanking like new.
Vinyl Labels - Mint, both sides like new.
Hardcore collectors will know how difficult this record is to collect, I can talk from experience as my first took me 20 years to acquire. Investment piece
