Probot Self Titled Southern Lord DBL LP Gatefold Press Dave Grohl Venom Foo EX+

American 2004 Southern Lord double vinyl gatefold sleeve pressing of Probot’s self-titled L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Southern Lord sunn30LP).  For those that don’t know (and I would guess that most who are bothering to look do) this was a Dave Grohl side project.  I suppose it gave him the opportunity to get into the studio with loads of his influences (i.e. Cronos of Venom, Lemmy of Motorhead and King Diamond amongst many, many others).  The artwork on this is pretty special and features what I can only describe as a kind of transfer-like image of the Probot on the front cover.  This is from my personal collection and like a lot of the things I’m currently selling which are sourced from my own collection it is going because I have never played it however, it should be noted that it was purchased second-hand and the sleeve flaws which I will describe below all predate my purchase of the item.  This has been in my collection for at least 5 years and to reiterate has never been played in that time.  Withdrawing the vinyl from the paper inners it is immediately obvious that this copy has never seen heavy play and I’d guess it might have been played a couple of times at most.  Grading under an intense light I can discern the odd, tiny hairline mark and the condition of both records is pretty equal (sometimes with doubles you’ll find that the first record has been played a lot and the second not at all but this is not the case here).  I wouldn’t be lying when I say that in appearance the vinyl isn’t far short of what a brand new record looks like (although the records are a little dusty).  The vinyl is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  The sleeve displays it’s age a little more readily than the vinyl does.  There are a number of flaws which were already present when I purchased this (and they should be visible in the attached images).  Both spine corners have received reasonably substantial knocks.  In both cases the knocks have resulted in fraying to these corners.  There are a number of creases and limited loss of print emanating from the spine which are evident on the front cover but far less visible on the back cover.  The bottom right-hand corner has received a knock which has bent the edge of the front of the gatefold sleeve up a little bit and this same knock has creased the rear of the gatefold sleeve in this corner.  The top right-hand corner has also received a lesser knock.  There is limited evidence of wear and/or fraying along the opening edges of the gatefold.  If you angle the sleeve under an intense light you can see some tiny hairline scratches on the front cover.  These aren’t at all visible on the rear of the sleeve which leads me to conclude that the Probot ‘transfer’ on the front cover is easily prone to wear as a result of handling.  There is a suggestion of ring-wear on both the front and rear of the sleeve.  Around the exposed edges of the sleeve there is the odd loss of print here and there.  My extensive description makes this sound like a basket case and it really isn’t.  For starters I purchased it in the condition it is in and I would hazard a guess that the flaws are a result of damage inflicted when it was posted (if that gives you an idea of what to expect).  There is no loss of colour and this is still a respectable looking copy which is graded as being in VERY GOOD+ condition.

The vinyl has been played a couple of times at most and this is a respectable copy from my personal collection.  Please check my other auctions for a large selection of Folk, Funk, Pop, R&B, Rock and Soul in similarly immaculate condition.  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself. 

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).

Multiple purchases will be subject to consolidated postage costs.  I will contact you at the end of the auction to confirm these costs.

Proof of postage is always obtained and retained.
