Pulp's "Different Class" is a critically acclaimed album that stands as a testament to the band's talent and the Britpop movement. Released in 1995, the album quickly became a commercial success, entering the UK Albums Chart at number one and winning the 1996 Mercury Music Prize. It includes four top ten singles in the UK, such as "Common People" and "Disco 2000," which helped propel Pulp to nationwide fame. The album's title, "Different Class," was inspired by a club night in London, and it was released at the height of Britpop. The album has been certified four times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and has sold 1.33 million copies in the UK as of 2020.
The album's critical acclaim is reflected in its ranking on various lists, including NME's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time at number six and Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time at number 162. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of the Britpop era, with its blend of clever lyrics, sharp social observations, and bold, theatrical style. The album's title alone announces that Cocker's broadened his scope, and it has been described as a deft, atmospheric, and occasionally stealthy record.
"Pulp's Different Class" is a fine wine that gets nicer and tastier the longer it remains in a vault. It is like a fine wine, as it gets nicer and tastier the longer it remains in a vault. The album's mature undertone and great songwriting make it stand up to the 21st century with an edgier, mature undertone.
