Description
Performer Notes: The Exploited includes: Wattie (vocals).
Although by no means musical perfectionists, the Exploited were purveyors of true punk idealism in both sound and attitude. Neither conceptual like the Sex Pistols nor stylistically progressive like the Clash, the Exploited stuck to anarchic political messages and blistering three-chord gutter punk. PUNK'S NOT DEAD, the band's 1981studio debut, hits with the force of a jack boot to the head. Jagged, speedy, and willfully sloppy, the Exploited play like a train wreck and take the establishment to task on issues ranging from fascist Bobbies ("Cop Cars") to urban squalor ("Dead Cities") to the politics of the underground itself (the title track). The lack of musical sophistication is clearly part of the point: These are not lovely pop compositions slaved over by meticulous tunesmiths; rather this is the sound of angry young men making noise and giving society the business, and as such it succeeds.
