* BEND LIKE STEEL * Am bekanntesten ist Lori Lieberman aufgrund ihres Titels "Killing Me Softly", den sie in ihren Troubadour-Tagen in Los Angeles schrieb, als sie ein Don McLean-Konzert sah; inzwischen hat sie 14 LPs und CDs für Capitol Records, Pope Music und Drive On Records aufgenommen. Diese Titel brachten ihr den Respekt der Musikindustrie und eine Menge hingebungsvoller Fans weltweit ein."Bend Like Steel" ist bis heute Liebermans persönlichste Platte, die sie kommentierte mit »Je mehr ich gesagt habe, desto mehr, empfand ich, hatte ich zu sagen.« Die Songs wurden von ihr selbst arrangiert und zeigen sie sowohl an der Gitarre als auch am Klavier mit Gästen wie dem Gitarristen Lyle Workman (Sting, Beck); gemastered wurde das Ganze von Gavin Lurssen (Alison Kraus/Robert Plant).
Die musikalischen Anfänge von Liebermans Geschichte liegen im Kalifornien der siebziger Jahre, dem Sunset Strip und den West Coast Klubszenen-Kreisen, zu denen auch andere Sänger gehörten, die wie Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne und die Eagles ihre eigenen Lieder schrieben. Als eine der besten Künstlerinnen von Capitol Records arbeitete sie mit einigen der führenden Studiomusiker - dem jungen Larry Carlton, Mitgliedern des L.A. Express, Sneaky Pete und dem Pianisten Joe Sample. Sie ging auf Tourneen durch die USA und Europa mit Randy Newman, Billy Joel, Leonard Cohen, John Sebastian und Rick Nelson, um nur einige zu erwähnen.
Lieberman wurde für den Golden Note Award für ihre hervorragende Leistung mit "A Thousand Dreams" bei Pope Music nominiert; zwei weitere CDs folgten - "Home Of Whispers" und "Gone Is The Girl", die sich beide durch ihre atemberaubend schönen Lieder, ihre warme Stimme und üppige Orchestrierung auszeichnen. Best known for "Killing Me Softly," written during her Troubadour days in Los Angeles when she saw Don McLean in concert, Lori Lieberman has now recorded 14 LPs and CDs for Capitol Records, Pope Music and Drive On Records. She has gleaned the respect of an industry and a devoted base of fans worldwide.
"Bend Like Steel" is Lieberman's most personal record to date, and she stated, »The more I said, the more I felt I had to say«. The songs were arranged by Lieberman and feature her on guitar and piano with guest artists that include guitarist Lyle Workman (Sting, Beck) and mastered by Gavin Lurssen (Alison Kraus/Robert Plant).
Lieberman's early music history formed in California in the seventies on the Sunset Strip and the West Coast club scene circuit that included singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and the Eagles. As one of Capitol Records' premier artists, she worked with some of the leading studio musicians - a young Larry Carlton, members of the L.A. Express, Sneaky Pete and pianist Joe Sample. She toured the U.S. and Europe with Randy Newman, Billy Joel, Leonard Cohen, John Sebastian and Rick Nelson, to name a few.
