Queen closed the 70s with this criminally underrated album, that houses 3 of their biggest anthems!!!
The album begins with the haunting "Mustapha", more than a little controversial today! It is rhythmic and intense.
"Fat Bottom Girls" is ridiculously catchy. "Jealously" is a sumptuous Freddie ballad that slows things down before the great "Bicycle Race" that has you singing along and wanting to catch a look at those girls riding by!!
"If you can't beat" them is one of my favourites on the album, a John Deacon track that is melodic and again a great sing along.
Side One closes to the awesome "Let Me Entertain You", that also sounds great on Live Killers.
Side Two opens with a Brian May rocker in "Dead on Time", before another great Deacon track, "In Only seven Days".
May brings a great sing along song in "Dreamers Ball"
The album runs nicely to a close with the absolute classic rock track "Don't Stop me Now".
Lovingly remastered by Bob Ludwig (after the Queen team did some ‘blind testing’ of the work of a few different engineers!). Analogue mastering was apparently considered, but ultimately ruled out due to issues with some of the original tapes (a few are over 40 years old, of course) such as speed errors, missing audio, newly developing clicks etc. What has happened is that high quality digital masters were created (24bit/96kHz), with necessary restoration then performed in the digital domain. The vinyl was then cut – at half speed – by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios from these files. And all reviews claim the resulting masters are “the finest ever” in terms of sound!!!
