I will never compromise on quality, safe packaging – I NEVER use mailing envelopes that offer virtually no protection at all, and records WILL arrive damaged in them at some time as most record buyers will already know. Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. PLEASE NOTE: I will NOT send any item, no matter what its value without a Royal Mail or courier tracking number. ALL my items must be signed and trackable to comply with Ebay delivery rules. Please do NOT ask me to make any exceptions to this rule as no country offers 100% reliable service without it.

Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take longer from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Rarity: The album itself is far from rare, but so often the giant poster is missing, damaged or fully separated from the main cover – often wall-hung and damaged. This copy is complete and the large poster is still attached to main cover with just four pulled separated perfs, the other 26 are still intact and quite strong. Finding these with zero pulls is difficult as these are quite fragile as this poster was designed to be easily removed and used for display. So for those who decided to keep the poster intact with the main cover, great care was always required – and still very much is. This album with an unmounted, undamaged and attached cover is now scarcer.

Album Information: Another top quality album from one of the most collectable bands ever. Finding an original copy with the very large fold out poster still close to fully attached to the main cover is getting increasingly difficult. As stated above, this one is mostly solidly attached with just four pulled perfs at the bottom. A complex and quite lavish package and one of the best Queen albums, for me the last truly great album they made before becoming too commercial for my taste. A lovely all-round copy that should please many collectors, sound quality and production values are immense, this well-pressed with little to fault bar a tiny few mild clicks on side one. Given the popularity and fragility of this album and its lavish cover, this could prove quite difficult to find much better and its one I great enjoyed on play-grade.

Cover Condition and Details: EXCELLENT: or very close to. An unlaminated gatefold format with embossed word ‘JAZZ’ on front and back (in pink). This one includes the famous, daring, even spectacular near three foot girls on bikes poster that is mostly still attached to the cover. The main cover is matt and smooth (bar the embossed text areas), the poster has a semi-gloss sheen, it has the UK G&L imprint. The set includes the original illustrated thick card inner sleeve that’s unlined and very glossy.

Cover Front: Any rubbing gentle and light to what is clearly a wear-prone dark surface. Very few creases and any surface marks gentle and faint with no sticker issues, this unforgiving front remains in very nice condition.

Cover Back: A little gentle grubbiness near the edges being very critical and virtually avoiding creasing. Little else to fault, this pale back has survived the years well.

Cover Gatefold Inner & Poster: The two inside main cover faces are clean and impressive with little to fault. The large poster has little creasing and still mostly attached as described further up. Clearly unmounted e.g. no pin-holes or tape marks. Stating the obvious, still being attached, this was never displayed or wall hung, so this fragile poster is still inpressive as seen in the picture. Great care in handling and unfolding to observe this poster is mandatory to keep this still intact on the main cover, so for any winning bidder, please be as careful as possible opening up this cover and poster.

Top & Bottom Edges: Straight, flat and near flush, with any hint of rubbing little and very light.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Both edges are very impressive.The front is the storage area, it being clean, sharp with barely any wear or thickening at all. The back edge is perilous and fragile – this is the poster perforated edge that attached it to the main cover. Again it looks great with just the bottom four perfect detached from the poster, and even this hardly obvious when closed.

Spine and Text: Solid, quite thick, straight, but with some tilt to the right. Folded square with the edges meeting up neatly together and near parallel. All the fine text present any rubbing to the black surface light. A super fine, natural central line crease is near impossible to avoid on this spine and this as light as its likely to get.

Corners: Any tip rubbing is small and light, very fine to excellent shape mostly retained with no major knocks, so any tip creasing tiny and very light.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this clearly wear-prone cover and immensely fragile cover (in terms of keeping the poster attached), one that will prove difficult to find much better. With only polite hints of its now considerable age, this has fared generally well. Always nice to see and offer one with the poster still mostly attached. This should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): and arguably better, with a very glossy finish and appearing laminated as the ends are very easily seen and distinct. A card unlined inner with the G&L (Garrod & Lofthouse) imprint. Wide top opening with pristine recessing, all edges naturally intact. A fantastic inner with no dulling and barely a crease to be seen.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: a fine visual copy that is clean with equally fine shine and solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface marks few, mostly very light and faint as seen critically under bright light. Just a very small mark on track two that emits around half-a-dozen light clicks, and these quite lost in the volume of the song. Other blemishes superficial and the songs plays impressively. Visually a fine record that should please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault bar the very brief blemish already mentioned. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. Few available copies will outperform this early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and mostly carefully handled. Little of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this quality album. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.
