QUEEN : Sheer Heart Attack 4U/4U

This very early pressing plays to a fantastic standard with only very minor 'background' on 'Brighton Rock' although this classic still plays 'as new' for 99%!  The rest of the album is as good as I have ever heard and the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is of a level that you can only find on vinyl.  It is STUNNING!  Visually it could hardly look any better also.  In my opinion this is a FINAL UPGRADE i.e. no need to purchase another as it would be nigh on impossible to find better audio.

The laminated cover is also in fantastic condition and the original lyric inner is also super clean.  A superb 'package'!

Visual grading

The 'fairground' intro on 'Brighton Rock' is near perfect with only a handful of barely audible swish sounds and as Brian and then Freddie enter the scene the audio is so impressive.  The clarity and depth is comparable to a record that has hardly been played.  A couple of mega light swish sounds again but they are so quiet and very much in the background.  The iconic instrumental section plays with incredible audio apart from three tick sounds at the very end.  Otherwise the stylus runs over the grooves with not even a dust tick!  The final section is faultless and overall I would say this deserves a Near Mint- grade.  A fine start to the album.

Quite simply 'Killer Queen' could not play any better.  From start to finish there is no interference and the clarity is exceptional.  Again it's the definition of the audio that really stands out, so clear and precise.  This is Mint I am confident in saying.

The underrated 'Tenement Funster' is of the same exact standard with no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either.  A stunning Mint version that has no distortion on the top end.  Wow!

The segue into 'Flick Of The Wrist' is flawless and it continues to play with stunning precision.  Once more there is literally no 'background' and the power and depth of the audio is 'as new', you could not find a stronger more impressive version.  Another Mint track :-)

'Lily Of The Valley' is of course a very quiet track and yet the clarity is again amazing!  I detected only one dust tick but to all intents and purposes the playback is Mint without a doubt.  A beautiful version.

The intro on 'Now I'm Here' is without fault and as the volume increases it proceeds in the same precise way.  As many Queen collectors will know this is one track that often suffers from inner groove distortion but this is one of the 'cleanest' versions I have ever heard.  There is perhaps just a little distortion in the instrumental section just after the 'Don't I love him so...' line near the end.  However, it is only very minor and does not detract from the quality of the audio, you can still play it loud!  The remainder plays with wonderful clarity and depth and even the fade out plays to perfection.  A Mint- end to a sublime S1.

Roger's 'vocal' on the 'In The Lap Of The Gods' intro has never sounded better!  In fact the entire intro is Mint with no interference of any kind.  As Freddie comes in this standard is maintained and the remainder does not disappoint either.  I cannot emphasise enough how STUNNING the audio is!  From start to finish this is Mint every day of the week!

As you would expect 'Stone Cold Crazy' plays with stunning power, clarity and power throughout with not one iota of interference.  Mint

The gentle 'Dear Friends' plays beautifully with no underlying static and only a couple of dust ticks.  The clarity is incredible and remember this is vinyl we're talking about!  Mint

'Misfire' plays to the same 'high end' standard with superb sonic quality.  There is nothing to fault and once more Mint is more than deserved.  The fade out provides a great example of the clarity on offer here with not one dust tick let alone anything worse.

Showing just how versatile Freddie was in his writing style 'Bring Back That Leroy Brown' then plays with immaculate precision from beginning to end with, dare I say, no sign of any interference.  So far I just cannot believe the audio on this album!  Mint

'She Makes Me' plays with incredible depth from the very first groove and as always I have listened to every second so as to provide a 'complete' grading.  The playback here is just sensational and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint as it could not play any better.  Even the final 'breath' has no 'background'!

'In The Lap Of The Gods...revisited' ends this STUNNING album with such dynamic quality and...no interference.  For once the powerful end section has no distortion and the audio is perfect from the first note to the 'bomb' at the end.  Mint

In summary this early pressing plays to an impeccable standard that is so hard to find today.  A FINAL UPGRADE copy in my opinion that only has a minor amount of insignificant 'background' on 'Brighton Rock' and is still a stunning version!  All of the other tracks play with superb precision with no interference at all.  This is without question one of the finest examples of this classic album that I have ever had the pleasure in listening to.  The production on this album is often said as being up there with their best and when you find a vinyl as clean as as this the clarity and definition of the audio really shine through.  Together with a fantastic cover and lyric inner this would add to any 'high end' collection.

The Cover

The laminated cover is in superb condition with no obvious shelf wear at all.  The edges and spine are 'as new' and amazingly there is no corner wear either.  The opening edge is also in great condition also and clearly this cover has always been very carefully handled.  The front cover has no marking or laminate damage and has only a small number of the usual small crease lines next to the spine.  The back cover is just as good and as can be seen it has the Trident logo bottom right.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE cover and has been so well preserved down the years.
