Dulwich College art-rock pioneers Quiet Sun finally get to hear Mainstream much as they always intended. Recorded in 1975 during a break in Phil Manzanera's early Roxy Music years, the album finds four old friends flying by the seat of their pants; those knotty progressive workouts and fearless musicianship now sound all the more immediate, particularly on cult favourites 'Sol Caliente' and the gloriously titled 'Mummy Was An Asteroid, Daddy Was A Small, Non-Stick Kitchen Utensil', both brimming with adventurous interplay. Seven minutes of previously unheard material sweetens the deal, making this a welcome second bite at the cherry for one of progressive rock's great "nearly-made-its".
