Condition : laminated cover on both sides just shows some slight creasing in the corners, NEAR MINT / missing, if there ever was, Obi strip / vinyl has a few minor signs which do not affect the perfect listening except for a small number of light clicks, EX+

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : film crudo che narra di un feroce delitto commesso da due criminali contro una famiglia di quattro persone, basandosi su un reale fatto di cronaca accaduto nel 1959 in una fattoria del Kansas e raccontato da un romanzo di Truman Capote. Tutto questo è visto dal regista del film con grande distacco e senza alcuna emozione di pietà, comprensione o forzatura della realtà ma solo come cronaca obbiettiva di un fatto di sangue, pur senza cinismo. Quincy Jones comprende intelligentemente questo schema componendo, almeno a mio avviso, una bellissima colonna sonora dove la musica jazz si fonde con cupe atmosfere sinfoniche. Un jazz scarno con pochi accordi che riflette perfettamente le varie scene del film. Il compositore si avvale del contrabbassista jazz Ray Brown a cui si alterna Andy Simpkins al basso. Questi due strumenti possono essere considerati i cardini su cui si sviluppa l'intera colonna sonora. Brani come "Hangin' Paper" (a3) con assolo di contrabbasso seguito dalla batteria e poi dalle tastiere ed effetti sonori, o "No Witnesses" (b2) con percussioni insistenti e basso in risalto, danno perfettamente l'idea della concezione musicale di Quincy Jones. Le sonorità sembrano essere razionate come la benzina in situazioni particolari, emesse con parsimonia per aderire nel migliore dei modi alla trama del film. Naturalmente c'è l'orchestra con la sezione d'archi dai suoni tenebrosi, la chitarra, la tromba, la batteria ed il sassofono di Gil Bernal. Proprio lui, quasi uscendo dalla struttura musicale finora descritta, canta una triste ballata in Spagnolo, "Niña" (b4), accompagnato dalla chitarra. Cito solo "Seduction" (a5), tema jazz con basso e percussioni dalle sonorità fredde che sembrano non incontrarsi a cui segue un bel assolo di batteria.

I titoli dei dodici brani con la loro durata possono esser letti guardando il retrocopertina raffigurato nella scansione n° 2.

Notes : a cruel film which tells about a savage murder committed by two criminals against a family of four, based on a real homicide happened in 1959 on a farm in Kansas and told from a novel by Truman Capote. All this is seen by the film director with great coolness and without any emotion of pity, understanding or stretch of reality but only as an objective chronicle of a bloody event, though without cynicism. Quincy Jones intelligently understands this schema - composing in my opinion - a terrific soundtrack where jazz is fused with dark symphonic atmospheres. A bare jazz with a few chords which perfectly reflects the film different scenes. The composer uses the jazz double bass player Ray Brown who alternates with Andy Simpkins on electric bass. These two instruments can be considered the cornerstones on which the whole soundtrack develops. Tracks such as "Hangin' Paper" (a3) with solo double bass followed by drums, then by the keyboards and sound effects, or "No Witnesses" (b2) with insistent percussion and bass in prominence, give perfectly the idea of Quincy Jones's music conception. The sonorities seem to be rationed like gasoline in certain situations, parsimonously emitted to adhere in the best way to the film plot. Of course there is the orchestra with string section from the dark sound, guitar, trumpet, drums and the sax of Gil Bernal. He, almost going out of the musical structure so far described, sings a grim ballad in Spanish, "Niña" (b4), accompanied by the guitar. I only mention "Seduction" (a5), jazz theme with bass and percussion by the cool sonorities which do not seem meeting up, followed by a nice drum solo.
