Queen | A Night at the Opera | Rare Factory Sample First Press | EMTC 103 | 1975
I'm selling several of my albums having recently disposed of my HiFi so I can no-longer play them and someone else should enjoy them.
This one is something of a rarity. I won it in a competition during the week it was released. I believe it was a number of advanced copies released to the music press in prior to the album's official launch. This was one offered by a newspaper as a competition prize which I was lucky enough to win. As you can see the album bears a unique sticker - 'NOT FOR SALE factory sample'. In actual fact I was the runner up in the competition - the first prize was two tickets to see the band. I wasn't too disappointed because I had tickets anyway and saw Queen perform live the very day Bohemian Rhapsody hit the number one slot in the UK charts. They were stunning!
Anyway, on to the record itself...
I'm aware that record dealers use a range of categories to grade albums for collectors, but i'm not a dealer so it's probably best that I don't join in.
In terms of condition therefore I would describe it in my own words as follows...
Sleeve: Average to good condition for its age with some edge wear and minor creases but nothing too bad. Being white it does show the dirt more than most albums though, so it looks a little grubby round the edges from being handled over the years. Having said this I think it looks worse in the photo than in real life!
Inner sleeve: Original cardboard picture sleeve slight slit in one side.
Record: Looks pretty clean but unfortunately there is a scratch on the penultimate track on side one 'sweet lady' - I have no way of playing the record so I can't guarantee it won't be audible so if you're bidding please bear this in mind.
