A genuine freak with a startling musical pedigree, Moore began his life-long dedication to home recording after leaving his father's publishing company (Moore's father headed up the legendary Nashville A-Team, a group of producers and session musicians who's playing can be heard on records by Elvis, Patsy Cline and Bob Dylan, among others) and releasing Phonography in 1976. Moore himself was a gifted sideman, but abandoned this potentially lucrative career for the green pastures of New Jersey, where he moved in the late 1970s to polish his weird-pop genius.

Moore worked as an on-air personality at WFMU, and set up the RSM Cassette Club, a cassette-only record label dedicated to releasing Moore's musical output (occasionally stretching as far back as the 1960s). Meanwhile, he continues to record for other labels and collaborate with like-minded musicians including Jad Fair and Terry Burrows.

-------------------------------------------------------

This lengthy album is a generally strong selection of songs boasting a broad array of styles, strikingly unusual and effective chord progressions, wry and clever lyrics, and inventive arrangements. The sound quality and performing level is mostly good, more consistent than in some other of Moore's releases. "Hobbies Galore" is a fine singer-songwriter tune delivered in sighing, echo-drenched vocal manner with acoustic guitar and click-track accompaniment. The whimsical "Blues for Cathy Taylor" exhibits no trace of a blues progression, but does have cunning lyrics sometimes set off-kilter to good effect; the song begins like a thinly twangy R.E.M. number and then turns country-like when the vocals commence. "I Love You Too Much to Bother You" sets creepy-funny lyrics to funky XTC-tinged music. "Everyone, but Everyone" is a lengthy midtempo Todd Rundgren-influenced number. "On the Spot" is a cheezy jazz-lounge blues-progression-based selection complete with "Okay, we're going to take a short break...me and the band will be right back" voice-over.

There are five tiny tracks entitled "Non Sequitur" that juxtapose minute snippets of music, voice, sounds, and tape loops like Edgard Varese's Poeme Electronique or "Revolution 9" by the Beatles. Two highly inventive covers also appear. "Who Killed Davey Moore?" uneasily mixes Bob Dylan's muckraking lyrics with an oddly upbeat musical arrangement; the Dr. Hook song "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" is done first half a cappella, second half energetic rocker.

This is a highly recommended release.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COMBINED SHIPPING ON ALL 12" VINYL / LPS / 12" EPS / 12" SINGLES - PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY!!!!

We offer combined shipping on all LPs / 12" Vinyls: our shipping rates are listed above. HOWEVER shipping packages that weigh more than 2kg is VERY expensive. Therefore we can only offer combined shipping up to a maximum of SEVEN (7) LPs / 12" vinyls. Any extra purchases will be invoiced, packaged and shipped separately.

***Due to the physical logistics of how I can package orders, I will not combine box sets with other items, I will only package them individually***

---------------------------------------------------

COMBINED POSTAGE FOR DIFFERENT FORMATS will be invoiced at my discretion:

While I am happy to combine (for example) one or two 7” singles into one package with 12” records, sometimes it simply isn’t practical (like if you want me to combine one 12” record with three or more 7” records). I simply do not think that these combinations can be packaged together safely and securely. Therefore these will be invoiced separately as two packages.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE, please contact me before bidding!

---------------------------------------------------

Sorry but I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks of auctions (see below).

---------------------------------------------------

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
