Description

Rare promo copy of the original 1961 first pressing Capitol stereo LP of Leonard Pennario's brilliant recording of the second piano concerto by Rachmaninoff, conducted by Erich Leinsdorf, on Capitol SP-8549. I don't know how many versions of this piece I have heard over the years, but it has been many, many... and lots of them are brilliant, but for me this is the absolute ultimate recording of all time. To my ears Capitol made the best piano recordings at this time and no other version can beat it. The audiophile who has never heard this album on an original stereo pressing is really in for a treat. The presence is just beyond...  anyhow here we have a promo copy of the oroginal "side-logo" label copy, and it is in beautiful condition. Nearly no markings of any kind, and plays almost mint. There is a touch of light crackle at the very beginning of side one but it quickly fades and the rest of the record plays almost flawlessly and just beautifully. I can't believe I am selling this copy, it is so lovely. The cover does have a little wear but is still very nice, with "Demonstration - Not for Resale" stamped twice on the front, once on the back, and on both labels. There is a seam split at the spine, tape on the upper edge (though I don't think it is a repair so much as just protection), a 1cm tear at the center of the open edge on the back, and some general light wear. But all in all it is quite nice and a perfectly presentable and lovely copy. And the sound is just incredible.
