Description

This is Polydor PD 6049. Rainbow recorded Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow between February 20 and March 14, 1975 in Munich Germany and it was released August 4, 1975. Blackmore was still a member of Deep Purple when this album was recorded and released. Blackmore formed the band after he became unhappy with the music direction Deep Purple was taking. The band Rainbow is Blackmore guitar, Ronnie James Dio vocals, Gary Driscoll drums, Craig Gruber bass guitar, and Mickey Lee Soule piano/Mellotrom/clavinet/organ. Also getting credit on this album is Shoshana vocals. During the previous year the band Elf had been supporting Deep Purple while they where on tour. What Blackmore did was hire all of Elf except Blackmore replaced Steve Edwards. This is Rainbow's first album with nine albums being released by the band. Blackmore fired all the band except Dio after this album was released. Rainbow would not use the same line-up on any two albums. Rainbow's sound is different from Deep Purple because it was more directly inspired by classical music. Dio also wrote songs with a medival theme. Dio never played a musical instrument on any Rainbow album but Dio is often thought of as the most powerful singer in heavy metal. He also is given credit for popularizing the "devil horns" hand gesture in metal culture. Dio died of stomach cancer May 16, 2010.

The vinyl is near mint . The gatefold cover is VG+ and wear so little not worth mentioning. The pictures inside show performing live but the band had yet to perform live and pictures are from other times. I do not ship outside the US and ship media mail.
