Long Live Rock 'n' Roll
is the third studio album released by the British hard rock band Rainbow, released in 1978, and the last to feature original lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio.

Recording of the album commenced in April 1977 at a studio in Château d'Hérouville, France, featuring Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio and Cozy Powell. Keyboards were initially played on a session basis by former Rainbow member Tony Carey, while bass parts were started by Mark Clarke.

Clarke was soon dismissed, however, and the bass parts were recorded by Blackmore himself.

By July 1977 seven tracks that ended on the album were in demo form. Recording was suspended while the band recruited Bob Daisley and David Stone and thereafter commenced extensive touring of Europe in the summer and fall of 1977. A return to the Château d'Hérouville studio in December saw the band finish the album and also yielded a final track, "Gates of Babylon."

Although Daisley and Stone are listed on the album credits for their contributions, they joined the band partway through the recording sessions and only appear on three and four songs, respectively. Stone wrote parts of "Gates of Babylon" but was never credited. Blackmore played most of the bass parts on the album.

"Kill the King" was already a staple part of the tour setlists, opening Rainbow concerts since mid-1976. It first appeared on the live album On Stage in 1977.

In the 1977–78 concerts the title track and "Kill the King" were the only songs performed, although "L.A. Connection" did get a few airings on the US tour before being dropped from the set. From 2004 to his death in 2010, Dio's solo shows featured a live version of "Gates of Babylon."

The original vinyl release was in a gatefold-sleeve, with a lyric-sheet insert.

The crowd picture is actually from a Rush concert, with the wording on the banner the fans were actually holding replaced by the Rainbow album title and the visible Rush T-shirts airbrushed to black.

In 2016 "Lady of the Lake" was recorded by a metal band Lords of Black fronted by Rainbow singer Ronnie Romero.

The song was released as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of their album II. In 2014 "Kill the King" was covered by Metallica as one of the four Rainbow songs covered in the "Ronnie Rising Medley", released on the Ronnie James Dio tribute album "This Is Your Life".

It was later featured as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of Metallica's album "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct"

The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks absolutely superband I can't see or feel any scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all! On closer inspection angled to the light I can see some surface scuffs/scratches/grazes on side one but nothing deep or anything that had an adverse effect of the audio quality as I heard it. (Importantly No marks or scratches that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all) Any other marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs and sleeve removal type only.. ,  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new.  (no) deep needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early originals! Note! This is so vibrant and clear, you will not find a better sounding album!  Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for an early pressing. The audio is graded at Least Excellent Plus to Very Near as Mint in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 38 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 38 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely ever played at all (There are barely a hand ful of spider traces only on the labels!), This vinyl has barely been played in my opinion and the audio quality superbe on all frequencies.

The labels
This features the "Polydor" labels. These are superbe Barely a handful of spider traces on the labels, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware! This vinyl looks almost barely played in my personal opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original white poly lined sleeve. No splits or tears minor ageing/creases only. Superb for 38 years old like this!  The vinyl is now and has always been stored seperately from the sleeve. Note This is the original!

The cover

The original 1st issue un-laminated texture Howards Printers Printed gatefold cover  This cover is absolutely superbe!  Rarely seen in decent top and condition like this one.  There are (no) edge splits or tears.   The spine is generally lovely and  square   A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!  No real nasty creases at all, Any imperfections, ie light rubbing/stains wear are not noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  Must be at least better than Excellent to excellent plus  in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 38 years on this cover!
