Description
The item for sale is a 1958 marlee Record Company 45 RPM record arranged by BOBBY and THE COUNTS with Vocals by Fred Ciaschi with TRA-LA-LA (I'm So Happy) on side A and Too Young on side B. The record is in very good condition, it plays through without any skips or loud noises on my equipment. I does have some visible marks on the record and does have some background clicks giving it that warm vintage charm. The worst area is the last 5 seconds on side A. The center labels are in excellent condition and the center hole has only the most minimal or wear. It is also autographed by Freddie and Chuck Ciaschi, Bill Lucas, Dale Sherwood, on side A and Gus Eframson on side B. This seems to be the whole original group according to what I learned, see next paragraph. The original sleeve is long gone and it will ship in a clear plastic cover. It is an excellent period Doo-Wop Rock and Roll record which I found very enjoyable and I doubt it is anything but extremely rare today. I can not verify the signatures but believe my mother got this record and had it signed at a concert she attended back in the day. Unfortunately, she has since passed and I can't verify this information but this is in her collection of 45's and this was common for her to do. I was only able to find one other copy of this record on the internet and it was listed at a much higher price without the autographs but with the record listed as being in Near Mint condition. So I believe I have priced this copy appropiately.
Here is what I was able to learn about the band. In 1958, after hearing rock and roll broadcasts from Nashville, Bobby Comstock formed his own band, Bobby and the Counts. The band had Comstock on guitar and lead vocals, Fred Ciaschi (vocals & piano), Gus Eframson (rhythm guitar), Dale Sherwood (drums), Chuck Ciaschi (bass) and (initially) Bill Lucas (bongos & vocals). The group recorded their first single, "Too Young"/"Tra-La-La", for Marlee Records in Trumansburg, New York, and in 1959 were signed to a national deal by Triumph Records, established by Herb Abramson after he left Atlantic. The group's moderately rocked-up version of the Patti Page hit "Tennessee Waltz" was released on the subsidiary Blaze label in late 1959 - with the group now being billed as Bobby Comstock & The Counts - and rose to no.52 on the Billboard pop chart.
This record has been around a long time and has some character marks and clicking sounds when played. It does not skip or jump and doesn't have any loud noises. The worst of it is in the last 5 seconds of side A. It is very enjoyable to listen to with friends. I would rate the condition as very good for its age. The autographs are clear and legible on very clean center labels with minimal center hole wear. The original sleeve is long gone and the record will be shipped in a clear plastic sleeve as shown.
